Lloyd Martin Cheney
Memorial service for Lloyd D. Martin, 82, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Cheney United Church of Christ. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Martin, who was born in Dayton, Wash., died Sunday.
He graduated in 1931 from Dayton High School and served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Martin moved to Cheney in 1965 and he worked as a novelty salesman. He retired in 1991.
After retirement he worked for McDonald’s in Cheney and wrote for the Cheney Free Press under the name Dyoll Nitram.
He was a member of the Manito Masonic Lodge and El Katif Shrine, was former grand associate guardian of Job’s Daughters for the state of Washington and past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of the Cheney United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Betty; three sons, Milton Orlob of Bend, Ore., Wesley Orlob of Issaquah, Wash., and Doug Orlob of Walla Walla; a daughter, Sherrie Orlob of Olympia; a brother, Dale Martin of Sequim, Wash.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
James Milward Spokane
Service for James E. Milward, 59, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. Milward, who was born in Wisconsin, died Tuesday.
He moved to Spokane in the mid 1930s and worked at the Kaiser Aluminum Mead plant from 1946 until his retirement in 1983.
Mr. Milward was a member of the United Steelworkers Local 329 and Blind Day Out.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Bernadine; a daughter, Donna Huey of Othello; a son, Frank Milward of Bellingham; three brothers, Stanley Milward of Mesa, Ariz., Rodney Milward of Deer Park and Donald Milward of Spokane; three sisters, Claudine Peters and Shirley Milward, both of Colbert, and Arlene Milward of Spokane; and three grandchildren.
Earl Goodman Sr. Spokane
Memorial service for Earl W. Goodman Sr., 81, will be at 1 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.
Mr. Goodman, who was born in Leoti, Kan., died Tuesday.
He owned the U.S. Royal Tire Store in Wenatchee and moved to Spokane in 1966.
In 1987 he married Marjorie Mercer.
Mr. Goodman worked in retail sales in Spokane until his retirement in 1983.
He was a member of the Spokane Valley Eagles and the Thousand Trails/ NACO Campgrounds.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Earl Goodman Jr. of Kirkland, Wash.; two brothers, Wayne and Delbert Goodman, both of Wenatchee; a sister, Irene Miller of Fort Collins, Colo.; and one grandson.
Charles Greenside Spokane
Service for Charles B. “Chuck” Greenside, 82, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Greenside, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.
He graduated in 1935 from Gonzaga Preparatory School and was an airplane mechanic during World War II.
Mr. Greenside was employed by Ernie Majer Ford and Pontiac City as a service writer for 35 years.
His wife of 61 years, Geneva, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Rucker of Spokane; a son, Robert Greenside of Spokane; two sisters, Jeanne Johnson and Peggy Patrick, both of Spokane; a brother, Richard Greenside of Sequim, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
Ruby Daniells Spokane
Memorial service for Ruby L. Daniells, 89, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, East Valley Ward in Liberty Lake. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Daniells, who was born in Minot, N.D., died last Saturday.
She worked as a homemaker.
Her husband, Hugh Daniells, preceded her in death.
Harold Roberton Jr. Gig Harbor, Wash.
Private burial for Harold “Robby” Edward Roberton Jr., 78, was held at the Peone Prairie Cemetery. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Peninsula Baptist Church in Gig Harbor. Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Roberton, a former Spokane resident, died Dec. 21.
He was born in Medford, Mass., and graduated from East Hanford High School in Connecticut.
Mr. Roberton received his Bachelor of Arts degree in chemical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
In 1942 he joined the Army Air Corps and served in World War II in the Pacific, and in the Korean War.
As an Air Force officer, he served as a navigator and later a meteorologist.
After returning to Spokane, Mr. Robertson worked as a loan and trust office for Old National Bank from 1964 to 1972. He was an investment counselor for Murphy Favre from 1973 to 1976 and then owned his own business, Wakely and Roberton, from 1976 to 1981.
He moved to Gig Harbor nine years ago.
His wife of 35 years, Juanita, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; two daughters, Heidi Penfield of Colbert and Jan Daily of Spokane; three sons, Richard Roberton of Seattle, and Mark and Hal Roberton, both of Spokane; four stepsons, Michael and Douglas Lyle, both of Gig Harbor, Patrick Lyle of Graham, Wash., and Kevin Lyle of Houston; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mildred Becker Spokane
Visitation for Mildred Lena Becker, 90, will be from noon to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. Private burial will be Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Miss Becker, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.
She did her nurse training at St. Ignatius Hospital School of nursing in Colfax, Wash., and started her nursing career at Sacred Heart Hospital.
In 1935 she started working for Edgecliff Sanitarium and stayed for for 36 years, retiring in 1971.
Miss Becker was a member of the Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and Esther Fellowship at the church.
Survivors include two nephews, Melvin Lee of Spokane and Bruce Becker of Seattle; four nieces, Jennie Mallgren of Spokane, Lois Brown and Barbara Becker, both of Seattle, and Marilyn Kilgore of Renton, Wash.
Eugene Sullivan Ritzville, Wash.
Funeral service for Eugene N. Sullivan, 54, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Danekas Funeral Home Chapel in Ritzville. A private interment will be held at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Sullivan, who was born in Concord, Mass., died Sunday.
He served in the Army during Vietnam.
Mr. Sullivan worked in Fort Meyers, Fla., as a carpenter and truck driver, hauling flowers.
He moved to Ritzville in 1987 and worked as a truck driver for a fertilizer company, and for Telecky Tire Co.
Mr. Sullivan was a member of the Disabled Veterans of America, Ritzville Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Ritzville.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lee; a daughter, Julie Goforth of Wenatchee; and seven grandchildren.
Pearl Jedel Colville, Wash.
Service for Pearl M. Jedel, 91, is planned for 10 a.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Graveside service will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Jedel, who was born in Sykeston, N.D., died Wednesday.
In 1925 she married Reinhard Jedel in Devils Lake, N.D., and they moved in 1938 to the Echo Valley area north of Colville.
They moved in 1944 to Arden, Wash., and to Colville in 1957.
She worked as a cook for many years at Smith’s Cafe in Colville and at King Coles Restaurant for 10 years before her retirement.
Mrs. Jedel was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Colville.
Her husband died in 1972.
Survivors include two daughters, Faye McAviney and Carole Swanson, both of Colville; a son, Frank Jedel of Colville; three sisters, Ruth Pepple of Hutchinson, Minn., Vivian Grant of California, and Edith DeBolt of North Dakota; and three grandchildren.
Dorothy Hider Spokane
Service for Dorothy “Dot” Hider, 87, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park. Entombment will follow. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hider, a 60-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.
She was born in Los Angeles and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hider was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, treasurer of the No Mad’s Unit of Ladies of the Oriental Shrine and the Sewing Committee at the Shriners Hospital for Children.
Her husband, Leonard, died in 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Hider of Spokane; and a brother, Edwin Albright of Deer Lake.
Alice Breeden Spokane
Graveside service for Alice M. Breeden, 77, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent, Wash. Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Breeden, who was born in Kalispell, Mont., died Monday. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Breeden was a Gold Star Mother with the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She lived in Kent for 18 years before moving back to Spokane 10 years ago.
Her husband, Paul, died in 1986.
Survivors include a son, Art Breeden of Kent, Wash.; three daughters, Susan Breeden of Kent, and Betty Medina and Darlene Barr, both of Spokane; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Loye Hohnwaldt Bayview, Idaho
Visitation for Loye Hohnwaldt, 66, will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Vigil service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Hohnwaldt, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.
She graduated from Rogers High School and was a member of the High Hats Social Club.
Mrs. Hohnwaldt sang in High Hatters with the USO and was a member of St. Patrick’s Guild in Spokane.
She worked as a checker at Safeway in Spokane before retiring and moving to Bayview.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford; five daughters, Margo Olson of Spokane, Dona Ryan of California, Lois Requena of Texas, Donna Eastman of Edmonds, Wash., and Barbara Bigelow of Bothell, Wash.; a sister, Jackie Orth of Bayview; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Robert Hurst Spokane
Graveside service for Robert Cecil Hurst, 83, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery in Rockford. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hurst, who died Wednesday, was born in Valleyford.
He was a 55-year Spokane resident and worked as an auto mechanic.
Mr. Hurst was a member of Machinists’ Union No. 86.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Leona; two daughters, Verna Taylor of Spokane and Catherine Stridborg of Livingston, Calif.; a son, Robert Hurst of Seattle; a sister, Eva Nelson of Puyallup, Wash.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Norma Johnson Spokane
Memorial service for Norma R. Johnson, 80, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Tuesday.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Daryl Johnson, died in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Gary Johnson of Spokane; a daughter, Jackie Alkier of Greenacres; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ray Moree Pullman
Private graveside service for Ray Moree, 84, will be held at the Pullman Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Moree, a retired Washington State University genetics and zoology professor, died Wednesday.
He was born in Ellensburg and graduated in 1932 from Ellensburg High School.
He graduated cum laude in 1937 from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology.
Dr. Moree also graduated in 1942 with a master’s degree and doctorate in zoology from the University of Michigan.
In 1941 he married Marie Savage in Ann Arbor, Mich., and in 1942 they moved to Pullman.
Dr. Moree began his career at WSU as professor of zoology and genetics. He retired in 1977.
He was a member of the Genetics Society of America, the American Society of Naturalists, the Gamma Alpha graduate scientific fraternity and Sigma XI.
Survivors include his wife; and a sister, Marjorie Sandusky, of Rollingbay, Wash.

Donna McTaggart Spokane
Visitation for Donna Lea McTaggart, 55, will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. McTaggart, a 44-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.
She was born in Drummond, Mont., and in 1962 married Sam McTaggart.
Mrs. McTaggart was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Brett and Mark McTaggart, both of Spokane; her father and stepmother, Frank and Hazel Turner of Deer Lodge, Mont.; two sisters, Adele Garcia of Hartland, Wis., and Jean Steed of Garden Homes, Ill.; and two granddaughters.
Melvin Martin Spokane
Inurnment for Melvin Francis Martin, 80, will be held at a later date in the Tahoma National Cemetery in Tacoma. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Martin, who was born in Marysville, Calif., died Dec. 30.
He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the 155th Engineer Combat Battalion from 1943 to 1945.
Mr. Martin received numerous ribbons, metals and a Bronze Star for his service in the Asiatic Pacific and Southern Philippines Liberation campaigns.
After the war, he worked as a foreman for Pacific Gas and Electric in Auburn, Calif., until his retirement.
He moved to Spokane in 1980 and continued to do work as an electronics repairman.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Lystad of Spokane; a sister, Marlyn Conolly of Seattle; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Robert Nixon Newport, Wash.
Private family service for Robert George Nixon, 69, was Friday at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Nixon, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Tuesday.
In 1947 he married Donna Wood.
He retired from Fred Meyer/ Roundup as a Mead Division manager and later worked in real estate and land development at Diamond Lake.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Sally Hoop of Athol, Idaho, Pamela Richter of Cut Bank, Mont., Connie Skellenger of Mead and Charlotte Graves of Otis Orchards; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
