Walton To Lead Anti-Abortion Drive
The Heyburn man who led unsuccessful efforts to get Idaho voters to approve anti-gay ballot propositions will head a religious coalition’s drive for abortion restrictions.
Kelly Walton, state chairman of the Idaho Citizens Alliance, has agreed to become executive director of the Idaho Christian Coalition, which is preparing anti-abortion proposals for the upcoming Legislature.
In 1994, the Idaho Citizens Alliance came within 3,000 votes of passing what would have been one of the most restrictive anti-gay measures in the country. Walton tried to get another measure on the 1996 ballot but could not gather enough signatures.
Walton told KTVB-TV in Boise on Friday that a big part of the anti-abortion drive will be tracking of candidates and elected officials on issues important to the Idaho Christian Coalition.
Walton said the coalition will push for a law requiring parental consent before a minor can obtain an abortion.
