Rail May Be Changed
The Oregon Racing Commission will consider replacing the metal rail at Portland Meadows that thoroughbred jockey Katherine Mayo slammed into during a race earlier this month, a commission spokesman said.
Mayo, 33, suffered several serious injuries Jan. 2 when her horse, Irish Kreme, bolted and threw Mayo against the three-inch-wide metal inner rail.
Track officials plan to wrap the rail in foam padding around the infield so racing can resume later this month.
Irish bloodstock agent Demi O’Byrne purchased a yearling filly for a record $3.4 million to highlight a spending spree during the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.
The filly by Seeking the Gold and out of the Nijinsky II mare was part of the complete dispersal of a partnership between Claiborne Farm and Nicole Perry Gorman.
