Keith Friel hit a 15-foot jumper with 1 second left Thursday night as Notre Dame beat No. 21 West Virginia 74-72, snapping the Mountaineers’ nine-game home winning streak.

Pat Garrity led the Fighting Irish (9-5, 3-3 Big East) with 27 points. Derek Manner added 15 points for Notre Dame and Friel had 11.

Damian Owens led the Mountaineers (14-3, 4-3) with 22 points.

At Salt Lake City, Andre Miller scored 17 points to lead Utah to a victory over the Rams (12-3, 1-2 WAC), giving the Utes (14-0, 2-0) their best start in 85 years.

Jameel Mahmud had 18 points to pace the Rams.

At Albuquerque, N.M., Clayton Shields hit five straight 3-pointers in the first half and Kenny Thomas scored New Mexico’s first 13 points of the second half as the streaking Lobos (13-2, 2-1 WAC) beat the Rebels (8-6, 1-1).

At Providence, R.I., Cuttino Mobley scored 16 points and the Rams (12-2) used their superior size and speed to overcome a slow start and beat the Green Wave (5-10).
