Baker To Be Honored On Human Rights Day
Idaho Gov. Phil Batt will honor St. Maries veteran Vernon Baker on Monday, as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Day/Idaho Human Rights Day ceremonies.
The event will take place in the Capitol rotunda in Boise.
Former Coeur d’Alene resident Bill Wassmuth, director of the Northwest Coalition Against Malicious Harassment, will be among the speakers.
Baker, part of a unit of black soldiers who fought in Italy during World War II, was belatedly awarded the Medal of Honor. He will be honored at a human rights dinner Wednesday at Boise State University.
