‘Titanic’ Album Stays At No. 1 Spot

The Hollywood Reporter

The “Titanic” soundtrack continues to travel uncharted waters.

The Sony Classical/Sony Music Soundtrax release tightened its grip on the No. 1 spot at the nation’s retailers, selling a whopping 419,000 copies for the week ended Jan. 18. That’s an increase of 72 percent from the previous week, when it sold 243,000 to jump to No. 1, according to SoundScan figures provided by the label.

“Titanic” has shipped 969,000 copies in nine weeks of release, making it the fastest-selling score soundtrack and classical album of all time.

Celine Dion’s “Let’s Talk About Love,” also in its ninth week of release and also featuring the “Titanic” love theme “My Heart Will Go On,” finished at No. 2 for the second straight week. Sean “Puffy” Combs’ latest find, the LOX, debuts in the No. 3 spot, as its “Money, Power & Respect” debut sold 110,000 copies. The album features much of the Bad Boy posse.

In fourth place were the Backstreet Boys, whose self-titled album moves from No. 7 on 82,000 copies sold, up from the previous week’s 76,000.

And rounding out the top five was R&B rookie Usher, whose “My Way” sold another 80,000 copies, down from 83,000.
