Janet Patterson Spokane

Memorial service for Janet Patterson, 45, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Patterson, who was born in Utah, died Tuesday.

She graduated from high school in Spokane and was working for Eastern State Hospital, first in the kitchen and was currently in the laundry department.

Survivors include two sisters, her twin, Janice Patterson, and Candace Hunsucker, both of Irrigon, Ore.; and three brothers, Harold Patterson of Davenport, Wash., Steve Patterson of Shelton, Wash., and Roger Patterson of Kent, Wash.

Ramona Dicker Milwaukie, Ore.

No service will be held for Ramona Eileen Dicker, 80, at her request. Private inurnment will be at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Spokane at a later date. Stehn’s Milwaukie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Dicker, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.

She was raised in Spokane and was employed by Washington Machine and Supply Co. in Spokane as a secretary. She then became a secretary for International Harvester Co. in Spokane and was transferred in 1964 to Portland.

Ms. Dicker retired in 1973 and moved to Milwaukie five years ago.

Survivors include a godson, Stanley Rutherford of Camp Meeker, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Chapter of the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Melvin Brown Spokane

Memorial service for Melvin L. Brown, 67, will be held at a later date. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brown, who was a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Monday.

He graduated in 1948 from Central Valley High School.

He worked as a janitor for Goodwill Industries.

Survivors include two brothers, Demetria Brown of Spokane and Raymond Brown of Greenacres.

Charles Fabio Spokane

No service will be held for Charles R. Fabio. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fabio, a 15-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday. He was 72.

He was born in Boston and worked as a marine superintendent for the Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Richard Fabio of Spokane and Alain Fabio of Portland; a daughter, Janet Fabio of Spokane; and 10 grandchildren.

Henry Clark Spokane

Visitation for Henry K. Clark, 84, will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Clark, who was born and raised in Greenacres, died Tuesday.

In 1945, he married Mildred Baker in Spokane.

Mr. Clark worked for Kaiser Trentwood for 32 years before retiring in 1978.

He was a member of the Spokane Iris Society.

Survivors include his wife; seven daughters, Marcia Jaten, Connie Kelley and Sandra Alvara, all of Spokane, Ruby Tiede of Kamas, Utah, Anita Westeren of Issaquah, Wash., Dorcas Jones of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Laura Leuthy of Haymarket, Va.; six sons, Gerald Baker, Stephen, Roger and Ronald Clark, all of Spokane, Lewis Clark of Seattle and Burton Clark of Greenville, N.C.; a brother, Oliver Clark of Spokane; 31 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Hospice of Spokane.

Jacob Meyer Sandpoint

Memorial service for Jacob Donald Meyer, 48, will be Wednesday at noon at Trestle Creek Park near Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Meyer, who was born in Minnesota, died June 21 from injuries sustained in an motorcycle accident near Noxon, Mont.

He moved to Seattle in 1955 and attended schools in Maple Valley, Wash., before serving with the Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Meyer returned to Seattle after his military service and then moved to Maple Valley in 1975 and worked for Boeing.

He moved to Upper Pack River near Sandpoint in 1987 and worked as a land surveyor.

Mr. Meyer was a former member of the Maple Valley Eagles Lodge and enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Survivors include his companion, Judy Hanson of Colburn, Idaho; and two children, Trina and Elias Meyer, both of Moscow, Idaho.

Grace Gauthier Colville, Wash.

Graveside service for Grace C. Gauthier is set for 3 p.m. Monday at Riverside Cemetery in Spokane. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gauthier, who was born in Shelbyville, Ind., died Tuesday at the age of 97.

In 1920, she married Emille Gauthier in Montana. They moved to Spokane in 1925.

Mrs. Gauthier was the bookkeeper for many family business ventures, which included several hotels, grocery stores, restaurants and a dairy farm in Hayden Lake, Idaho. They owned the Hiway Cafe and the Bonanza Cafe, both in Spokane.

Her husband died in the early 1980s and Mrs. Gauthier lived in the Clayton, Wash., area until recently moving to Colville.

Survivors include a son, William Gauthier of Clayton; a granddaughter, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Russell Whalen Sandpoint

Memorial service for Russell Whalen, 78, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Coffelt’s Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Mr. Whalen, who was born in Wisconsin, died Sunday.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Wisconsin and then received a bachelor’s degree from Edina Teachers College.

Mr. Whalen then received a masters degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin and then served with the Army in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.

He was a member of the Army Band and performed for General Patton, Winston Churchill, President Franklin Roosevelt and Joseph Stalin.

During the 1940s, Mr. Whalen toured with the Beverly Twins All Twin Orchestra, and later formed the Variations, performing in Spokane and Hayden Lake.

Mr. Whalen moved to Priest River in 1961 and taught band and choir at Priest River High School before moving to Sandpoint in 1964.

He taught band, choir and guitar at Sandpoint High School and beginning band at local grade schools.

Mr. Whalen retired from the Bonner County School District in 1985.

He was a member of the Swing Street Band, the Sandpoint Elks Lodge and taught private music lessons.

Mr. Whalen was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel; a son, Steven Whalen of California; two daughters, Katy Calios of California and Amy Whalen of Sandpoint; a stepson, Rodney Rojan of Lewiston, Idaho; twin brother, Bill Whalen of California; and two grandchildren.
