Soderbergh Provides Leonard With ‘Sight’
Like most authors, Elmore Leonard hasn’t fared well in film. But now we have Steven Soderbergh’s “Out of Sight.” And for maybe the first time, Leonard’s sense of underworld authenticity plays out on the screen exactly as it does on the page. The casting of George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez helps. And while the altered ending plays better to a movie crowd, that’s OK. It doesn’t ruin Leonard’s intent in the slightest.
