View Some Fine Art; Exercise At Same Time
Downtown gallery owners and other businesses will stage the second “Second Fridays,” a self-guided walking tour of art galleries, on Friday.
Businesses will remain open until 9 p.m. to allow people to view the various art work on display while Canned Music performs on Wall Street from 5 to 7 p.m. as part of the Summer Sizzle concert series.
Participating galleries are: Lorinda Knight Gallery, 523 W. Sprague; Hot Flash of America, 509 W. Sprague; The Art Gallery, on the second floor of Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main; Douglas Gallery, 120 N. Wall; Romeos Cafe, 221 N. Wall; James E. Talley Cabinetmaker, 12 W. Pacific; Colburn’s Gallery, 203 W. Riverside; Spotlight Gallery, 9 N. Washington; Out of Our Minds, 318 W. Sprague; Bliss, 518 W. Riverside; 2MT Gallery, 1131 W. First; Spokane MarketPlace, 1202 W. First; Eldridge Antiques and Art, 1325 W. First; Global Folk Art, 1401 W. First; Madkat Gallery and the Pottery Place, in the Flour Mill; and Chase Gallery in Spokane City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.
Art workshops
The Spokane Art School will sponsor several workshops July 20 to 30.
A mural-painting class and a video workshop designed for teens will be taught by Loralee Gray, with students, in grades six to 12, painting the Howard Street railroad viaduct in downtown Spokane. The class is 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; fee is $57.
The video workshop, open to students entering grades eight to 12, is from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Students will create story boards and complete a short film. Cost is $59.
A portrait-drawing workshop will be July 17 and 18 taught by artist Dan Spalding, 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 17; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the next day.
Using a model, students will learn to master drawing skills and portray personality and facial structure. The class is $50, plus a $13 model fee.

Pullman artist M. Diana Pace will have her work exhibited at the Jan Wilson Gallery in Sun Valley, Idaho, during July. A reception for the artist will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Spokane artist Kay O’Rourke has been named one of 15 award winners in the Northwest International Art Competition sponsored by the Whatcom Museum in Bellingham. Two of her oil paintings will be on display in the museum through August.
