James Patton, M.D. Diamond Lake, Wash.
Memorial service for James Moss Patton, M.D., 77, is planned for 11 a.m. today at the Cathedral of St. John The Evangelist in Spokane. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Patton, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.
In 1944 he married Mary Jane Tourtellotte in Evanston, Ill.
He served a medical internship at Passavant Hospital in Chicago, a Navy internship in Mare Island, Calif., and completed his pediatrician fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Dr. Patton served in the Navy during World War II as a naval surgeon on Mare Island from 1941 to 1945.
He had a private pediatric practice in Spokane from 1950 to 1963 and a practice at the Richland (Wash.) Clinic from 1962 to 1982.
Dr. Patton also worked in several different hospitals including St. Lukes, Sacred Heart Medical Center, Deaconess, Kadlec Hospital in Richland, Kennewick General Hospital and Pasco General Hospital.
He and his wife retired to Diamond Lake in 1982.
He was a member of the Psi Upsilon Fraternity of the University of Washington, the Nu Sigma Nu Medical Fraternity, the Mayo Clinic Men’s Chorus, the Northwestern Medical School Exchange Club, the Brotherhood of St. Andrew’s, The Spokane Club, the Ranch Golf Club in Priest River, Idaho, the El Cid Country Club in Mazatlan, Mexico, and the Benton County and Washington State American Medical associations.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sallee Patton Dyer of Salem, Ore., and Ginny Patton Matchette of San Francisco; two sons, Robert Patton of Plymouth, Minn., and James Patton of Redding, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Arthur Lien Tekoa, Wash.
No service will be held for Arthur Edward Lien, 71, at his request. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lien, who died Wednesday, was born in Seattle.
He graduated in 1944 from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane and served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Lien graduated in 1950 from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, with a degree in comparative literature.
In 1951 he moved to New York and worked as a research librarian for Time Magazine. He was the assistant head research librarian when he moved to Bryant Pond, Maine, in 1964.
He was a self-employed antique dealer for 15 years in Maine and in 1978 moved to Spokane, where he started his nursing career.
Mr. Lien worked for the Veterans Administration Medical Center for 10 years and also as a nurse at Spokane Care Center.
He retired in 1989 and moved to Malden, Wash., in 1990 and Tekoa in 1995.
Mr. Lien was a member of the Spokane Neighborhood Program, was selected Ombudsman Volunteer of the Year for 1994-1995 and was a member of Malden Community Church, where he served as the church organist.
Survivors include a special friend, Dione Brandt of Tekoa; and a son, Arthur Lien III of Baltimore.
