BENEWAH COUNTY

St. Maries

After several local parents complained, the St. Maries School District decided not to close the Heyburn computer lab. Computers originally were going to be moved into classrooms, which would have eliminated the lab, Superintendent Steve Cox said. A $99,000 federal grant still will be used to hire a technology specialist and train teachers.

BONNER COUNTY

Sandpoint

A pavement resurfacing project to improve U.S. Highway 95 will begin Thursday from Samuels Road to the Boundary County line, the Idaho Transportation Department has announced. The project is expected to be completed by the end of August and will create traffic interference for two weeks.

Priest River

The city is moving toward implementation of parts of the downtown revitalization plan developed by consultant Steve Klatt. Klatt’s contract was extended an extra 90 days to begin implementation of the plan. Developing a downtown business association remains part of the focus.

BOUNDARY COUNTY

Bonners Ferry

Boundary County no longer will have a home economist position, due to a lack of funding. Forty-two Department of Agriculture jobs through the University of Idaho will be lost throughout the state because of Department of Education cutbacks to the university, County Commissioner Merle Dinning said.

KOOTENAI COUNTY

Post Falls

TechHelp will sponsor a computer workshop addressing potential year 2000 disruptions Wednesday at the University of Idaho Research Park in Post Falls, said Larry Stauffer, university director of TechHelp and director of the UI Boise Engineering Program. TechHelp is a nonprofit organization sponsored by Boise State University, Idaho State University and the University of Idaho. Farragut State Park

LATAH COUNTY

Moscow

Free testing for children who may have been exposed to lead-based paint will be available on Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. at the North Central District Health Department in Moscow. The blood screening will be available through Sept. 30 to identify children with elevated levels of exposure. Children between ages 1 and 6 who live in or frequently visit buildings built before 1950 should be tested. For more information call 882-7506.

SHOSHONE COUNTY

Wallace

The Shoshone County clerk’s office will conduct West Shoshone Hospital District’s special recall election on Aug. 4. Polling sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Pinehurst Elementary School and Sunnyside Elementary in Kellogg. Any registered resident of the district will be eligible to vote. PEND OREILLE COUNTY

Cusick

The Cusick Moonlight Classic horse show is wrapping up today at the Pend Oreille County Fairgrounds. Final events get under way at 10 a.m.

SPOKANE COUNTY

Deer Park

Deer Park Hospital, working under the Sisters of Providence, has joined the newly created Providence Services Eastern Washington. There are no immediate plans to change services at the hospital, but duplicated services such as bookkeeping and equipment procurement may be reduced in the future, hospital administrator Cathy Simchuk said.

WHITMAN COUNTY

Pullman

The Washington State University Museum of Art will exhibit works by the late Ken Cory through Aug. 2. Cory, who was raised in Pullman, combined popular culture with classic jewelry techniques for the works on display. The showing includes pins, buckles, rings and small sculptures. Museum hours are Monday through Friday, 10 to 4 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday, 1-5 p.m.

LINCOLN COUNTY

Libby

Local participants within a 100-mile radius can preregister for the St. Johns Lutheran Hospital Foundation Rodeo scheduled for Aug. 21-22 at Air Field Park in Libby.
