Decision On Condo Proposal Postponed

From Staff Reports

The fate of a condominium development on Lakeview Hill has been delayed until Aug. 11.

The Coeur d’Alene Planning Commission postponed a decision Tuesday evening to give the developer and the neighborhood a chance to discuss the proposed development.

About a dozen neighbors attended a public hearing Tuesday to express opposition to the development. They delivered petitions with signatures from 350 people opposing the development.

They argue that the hill should be purchased by the city for a park.

The city approved 74 condominiums for Lakeview Hill in 1978 but it was never constructed. Alan Golub purchased the property in 1991 and wants to modify the development.

Golub wants to build the condominiums in three buildings instead of 11 as was originally proposed. He argues his proposal will cause less harm to the land than the original plan.

City officials say that Golub has the right to develop the land under the old development agreement.
