Indians Win Third Straight Dodson’S Torrid Hitting Helps Spokane Turn Back Portland Indians 5, Rockies 2

Jeremy Dodson helped Spokane get off to a quick start and the Indians went on to defeat the Portland Rockies 5-2 for their third straight victory.

Dodson staked the Indians to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a single that scored Mike Curry.

The Indians made it 2-0 in the third when Paul Phillips doubled and came around to score on a Dodson single. It was Dodson’s sixth RBI of the young season.

Spokane broke the game open with a three-run fourth inning.

Corey Hart walked, Merrell Ligons singled and Curry walked to load the bases. Phillips ripped a two-run single, and Brian Shackelford added a run-scoring single to give the Indians a 5-0 lead.

Spokane starter Monty Ward threw four shutout innings, allowing just two hits. He struck out five and walked three.

The Rockies touched up Spokane reliever Jim Hooper (1-0) for a pair of runs in four innings.

Spokane’s John Lee pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.

Luis Landaeta’s fifth-inning RBI single broke up Spokane’s bid for a shutout.

The Indians scored all five of their runs off Rockies starter Luke Hudson. Hudson lasted just 3-2/3 innings, giving up five earned runs on four hits and four walks.

The Indians (3-4) will send Jeremy Jackson (0-1) to the mound tonight. Derek Vargas (0-0) will start for the Rockies (4-3).
