Buckner carried on
I would like to set the record straight on a statement made in the sports section of the Sunday edition of The Spokesman-Review on June 7, 1998 (page 2).
The statement: “Tom Buckner, who first built Mead into a track power … ” is not correct.
Before Coach Buckner came to Mead in the fall of 1978, Mead had been undefeated in track and field dual meets for four consecutive seasons under Duane Hartman.
Coach Hartman “first built” Mead into a track and field power, and coaches Tom Buckner and Gary Baskett should be recognized for carrying on the fine tradition that started in the spring of 1975. Jeffrey A. Rahn Spokane
