17-U Stars Continue Aau Pace
The Spokane Stars 17-U girls basketball team is on a roll at the AAU national championship tournament in Indianapolis.
Spokane picked up a pair of victories on Sunday to win Pool D and advanced to the championship portion of the tourney as a No. 1 seed.
Newport’s Carey Sauer blocked a 3-point shot at the buzzer to preserve a 71-69 victory over the Philadelphia Bells in the opener. Kamiakin’s Emily Autrey scored a pair of baskets in the final minute to give Spokane the lead.
The Stars crushed the Missouri Tarheels 86-51 in the second game.
Katlin Lafferty and Heather Reichman each scored 12 points to pace Spokane.
The Stars play the Iowa Swoosh this morning at 8:30.
The Spokane Stars 16-U team dropped its third straight game. Nikki Petticrew tossed in 27 points, but the Orlando Storm cruised to a 90-78 win.
Heat win tourney
Eric Sandberg fired a one-hitter while striking out 16 and the Spokane Heat beat the Trail Eagles 7-2 in the championship game of the NABF Trail Tournament in Trail, British Columbia.
Spokane’s Brian Munhall was named the tourney MVP. Munhall batted .714 with four home runs, six runs scored and 11 RBIs.
North Stars win twice
Taylor West struck out 13 batters and Kent Hibbard delivered a two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning to lift the North Stars to a 2-1 Legion win over the Cannons.
Tony Bove had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in three runs to lead the North Stars to a 13-5 win in the nightcap.
