Costner Returns To Baseball Theme
Sam Raimi has claimed a plum assignment for a baseball fanatic - directing Kevin Costner in his third baseball picture, “For the Love of the Game.” Production will start in September, with filming in New York and at Yankee Stadium.
Several top directors circled the project in recent weeks. According to one insider, Raimi won the job by impressing producers with his love of baseball and understanding of the story.
In “For the Love of the Game,” based on Michael Shaara’s novel, an aging pitcher reflects on his life and especially his love of a woman while pitching a perfect game. Costner also starred in baseball-themed hits “Field of Dreams” and “Bull Durham.” “For the Love of the Game’s” filming schedule should be interesting as the Yankees appear a sure bet to reach the playoffs and possibly the World Series.
That would, of course, tie up Yankee Stadium considerably in the fall, when the filmmakers want to shoot in the storied ballpark.
