Kelowna Slips Past Chiefs, 4-3

Scott Parker redirected Scott Hannan’s second-period shot from the right point into the goal Sunday night, giving the Kelowna Rockets a 4-3 Western Hockey League victory over the Spokane Chiefs.

Kelowna had opened a 3-0 lead over Spokane, before the Chiefs scored three times in less than four minutes to tie the score.

However, Kelowna which scored three of its goals on the power play, capitalized after Spokane’s Ty Jones was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct at the 18:04 mark of the second period. Parker scored the winner 37 seconds later.

The teams are likely first-round opponents in the WHL playoffs.

Spokane (42-21-4) began its rally not long after Kelowna’s McLean scored his 37th goal of the season and second of the night with a breakaway backhander at 3:10 of the period.

Trent Whitfield rebounded a Zenith Komarniski miss for his 35th goal at 7:10. Cisar put in a pass from Greg Leeb at 9:59 and Komarniski tallied from the high slot at 11:08.

Kelowna won five of the eight games between the teams this season, including 3 of 4 on the Rockets’ home ice in Memorial Arena.

Spokane’s Cam Severson received a game misconduct after checking Kelowna defenseman Kris Mallette, who was injured on the play, in the first period.
