History Repeats Itself As Reardan Ousted

Bob Coleman Correspondent

1A boys

Once again, Reardan needed to go the length of the floor in the final seconds, and once again the Indians’ inbounds play went awry at the 1A boys basketball state tournament in the Tacoma Dome Thursday morning.

This time, trailing by two points with 2 seconds left, the Indians tried to pass the ball in from under the Toledo basket but instead threw the ball into press row at midcourt.

Reardan immediately fouled on the Toledo inbounds pass and Jim Netteland made 1 of 2 free throws for the final 54-51 margin.

Pete Eastman had put Reardan up 51-48 with 1:38 left on a 3-pointer. But Toledo’s Brock Jordan, who missed all nine of his previous shots, answered with a 3-pointer to tie the game 11 seconds later. The loss eliminated Reardan (16-9). Toledo (18-7) advances to face Zillah in the consolation bracket.

On Wednesday, the Indians lastditch inbounds play was stolen at midcourt, sealing the win for Life Christian Academy.

Reardan senior Rhett Soliday again provided the bulk of Reardan’s offense. He made 8 of 14 shots, including 7 of 12 from 3-point range, for a game-high 27 points. He scored 16 in the first half. Reece Jenkin added 10 points.

Nettleland topped Toledo with 18 points. Kurt Wallace added 14, D.J. Wallace had 13.
