Lakeside, Clark Fork Go Two And Out At State

Guard Joey Woodland hit 17 points as Notus fought off Lakeside Thursday, defeating the Knights 63-60 in a consolation quarterfinal at the Idaho A-4 boys high school basketball tournament.

In other consolation semifinals, guard Gailon Brown dished out 30 points to carry Deary to a 72-56 victory over Clark Fork. Cody Cahill fired up Council with 24 points as the Lumberjacks squeezed by Carey 68-65. And Camas County sank a last-second free throw to down Murtaugh 46-45.

In the championship quarterfinals, Hagerman defeated Mackay 57-42, Rockland beat Ketchum 65-45 and Troy got past Cascade 38-32.

Notus 63, Lakeside 60

Notus pulled to a 37-31 halftime advantage, and a 49-41 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Pirates connected on 62 percent of their field goals, while the Knights only mustered 34 percent. Ken Pluff led Lakeside with 14 points.

“We just couldn’t our shots to drop,” said Lakeside coach Greg Stutzman, whose team hit just 21 of 76 shots.

Deary 72, Clark Fork 56

Bolstered by Brown’s baskets and a game-high seven rebounds, Deary pulled to a 39-31 halftime lead. The Wampus Cats ran up 16 fourth-quarter points to the Mustangs’ 13, but couldn’t pull out the win. Clark Fork guard Brent was the only Wampus Cat in double figures, with 17.

In other consolation games, Carey caught fire early, racing to a 32-24 lead by halftime and 42-32 by the fourth quarter. But the Lumberjacks then put together a 29-13 fourth quarter and eased past the Panthers. Forward Greg Edwards of Carey had 22 points and eight rebounds.

Murtaugh overran Camas County in the first half, rolling to a 28-19 lead. The Mushers excelled under the boards, drawing to 35-32 and then hitting the last free throw for the victory. Guard Nick Smith led Camas with 19 points, while Clayton Nebeker had 15 for the Red Devils.

Championship quarterfinals

Sophomore Dana May scored a game-high 25 points and junior Mathew Ralphs added 18 as Rockland defeated Ketchum 65-45 in a championship quarterfinal.

Ketchum was led by junior center Graham Snyder and junior center R.J. McLaughlin with 15 points each.

Rockland led 31-20 at the half, and extended the lead in the third and fourth quarters.

Earlier, senior Tanner LeMoyne scored 13 points and junior guard Tyson Clark added 12 as Hagerman defeated Mackay 57-42, also in a championship quarterfinal.

Mackay was led by senior guard Heston Williams with 13 points.

Hagerman was ahead by 13 points at the half, and outscored the Miners in all four quarters.

Hagerman also took advantage of free-throw opportunities, outscoring Mackay 11 to four.

Senior guard Morgan LeBlanc scored a game-high 25 points to lead Troy past Cascade 38-32. Cascade was led by freshman guard Stan Aschenbrenner with 15 points.

Troy trailed by four at the half, then outscored Cascade by five in the third quarter and five in the fourth to pull ahead.
