Rainier Beach’s King Dominates Moses Lake

Senior post David King scored 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to pace Rainier Beach to a 74-63 quarterfinal victory over Moses Lake Thursday in the Class 3A boys state basketball tournament in the Kingdome.

The Vikings (25-2) emptied their bench against the Chiefs (21-8).

Two Bob Schefter free throws with 2 seconds left as the the Rams (23-4) eliminated the Knights (17-12). West Valley was led by the 13 points each of Chad Chronister and Dylan Aamodt.

The Knights had a chance to go ahead with 10 seconds left and the score tied at 48-48 but Brett McDonald missed both of his free throw attempts setting the stage for Schefter’s heroics.

Nick Johnson scored 26 points to lead the Tigers (21-4) and Zac Randles added 10.

Burlington led 23-5 after one period over the Spartans (20-7), but Bainbridge outscored the Tigers 23-8 in the second period to get within 31-28 at the half.

Senior post Jozsef Szendrei was 9-for-10 from the field for 20 points to lead the Thunderbirds (20-6) past the Warriors (16-12) in a loser-out game.

Tumwater is the only team that has beaten Olympia, which plays Mercer Island today in a semifinal game.

Senior guard Bruce Williams scored 20 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and had four assists as Highlanders (22-6) eliminated the Totems (15-12).

Sammamish (15-12), which never led, did get to within five points at 35-30 late in the third quarter, but was outscored 28-5 in the last 11 minutes.
