John Oliver Johnson Post Falls

Visitation for John Oliver Johnson, 88, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Service is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday at Community Presbyterian Church in Post Falls.

Mr. Johnson, who was born in Minnesota, died Tuesday.

He grew up in North Idaho and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1932 with a accounting degree and in 1945 with a master’s degree in education.

Mr. Johnson worked as a teacher for 41 years in the Rose Lake, Rathdrum, Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene districts.

He was a member of Post Falls Community Presbyterian Church, a lifetime and charter member of the Post Falls Kiwanis, Rathdrum Masonic Lodge 41, the Scottish Rite bodies of Coeur d’Alene, Calam Temple of Lewiston and the Coeur d’Alene Shrine Club.

His wife, Margret, died in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Penny Waller of Hayden Lake; two foster grandchildren, Sarah and Hannah Waller of Hayden Lake; two nephews and two nieces.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.

Joyce Shephard Plummer, Idaho

Private service for Joyce Shepherd, 71, will be held later at her request. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shephard, who was born in Minnesota, died Tuesday.

She grew up in Minnesota and moved with her parents to Moscow, Idaho, in 1942. After marrying Warren Shepherd in 1946, they moved to Plummer and owned the Benewah Market until 1971.

Survivors include her husband; a son, James Shepherd of Plummer; two daughters, Dawn Pfeifer of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Nancy Tefft of Coeur d’Alene; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Idaho.

Helen Fry Sandpoint

Memorial service for Helen Fry, 89, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint.

Inurnment will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.

Mrs. Fry, who was born is Bend, Ore., died Monday.

She graduated from high school in Libby, Mont., and attended the University of Washington. She graduated from St. Catherine’s in Minnesota with a teaching degree.

After World War II, she moved to Portland with her husband Arthur, who was a member of the University of Oregon Dental School. After retiring in 1974, they returned to North Idaho.

Mrs. Fry was a member of St. Thomas More Church Auxiliary.

Her husband died in 1983.

Survivors include a daughter, Jan Morrison of Sandpoint; and three granddaughters, Judy Dean of Fort Worth, Texas, Maria Morrison of San Francisco and Carla Morrison of Boulder, Colo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Idaho, Inland Northwest Chapter.

Dwight Crowell Sandpoint

Private memorial service for Dwight Crowell, 78, will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Coffelt Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crowell, who was born in Idaho, died Saturday.

He served in the 403rd Fighter Squadron during World War II.

Mr. Crowell worked as a truck driver, a press operator and a real estate agent. He owned Crowell’s Christmas Conifers and wrote a column for the Sandpoint Daily Bee.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Margaret; three sons, David and Steven of Kent, Wash., and Crandon Crowell of Sandpoint; a daughter Becky McPherson of Valley, Wash.; a sister, Mary Crowell of Kent; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Gideons Bible Society, Sandpoint.
