School District Saves Energy - And Dollars

From Staff And Wire Reports

Energy conservation programs in the Post Falls School District have saved the district $27,000 in 12 months, according to the Washington Water Power Co.

The company presented an award on Tuesday to Mary Kelly, purchasing and finance director for the district, for her success in resource management.

Using a WWP resource management program to save energy, Kelly made building operations more efficient even though the school district was using the classrooms more than it had previously.

To achieve the savings, Kelly shut off heating and ventilation systems during school vacations and used heat tape on the roofs and gutters for snow removal. Staff members and students also contributed by recycling and reducing their energy usage, she said.

The district also replaced regular exit signs with more efficient light-emitting diode signs, which use less electricity. , DataTimes
