Heyburn Park Trails To Close For Fire

The hiking and horseback-riding trails at Heyburn State Park will be closed on Saturday.

Park officials will be setting a 64-acre fire in the area, according to staffer Ron Hise. The controlled burn is the first step in an effort to restore ponderosa pines in the park, located at the southern end of Lake Coeur d’Alene in Benewah County.

Hise said the timing is being forced by a combination of weather and hillsides that soon will be too green to burn.
