United Way Awards Agencies For Food Services
United Way of Kootenai County has awarded $21,000 between two local agencies on behalf of food bank services provided last year:
St. Vincent de Paul will be reimbursed expenses of $13,000 for helping to feed the hungry from May to September through disbursements at their Government Way location.
The Community Action Agency will receive reimbursement of $8,000 and has applied for United Way Agency Membership for its Kootenai County food bank, which opened in October 1997.
The University of Idaho Rehabilitation-Community Counseling Program will receive a five-year $500,000 Rehabilitation Services Administration grant which will assist 12 students per year based on certain criteria.
The grant, effective next fall, will support select graduate students with $6,000 stipends per year, at $2,000 per semester. The money will support the preparation of counselors to work in the areas of family consultation, addictions and dual-diagnosis, group and multicultural counseling.
Funds were acquired by Jerry Fischer, assistant professor and coordinator of the program, and Dianne Phillips-Miller, assistant professor of counseling and human services.
Soroptimist International of Coeur d’Alene has donated a Thomas Kincade print to the Smile Squad Clowns at Kootenai Medical Center.
Proceeds from the print, “Hometown Lake,” will be used to benefit the Laughter Library at the Health Resource Center and will help with costs for two nurses to attend the International Conference on The Positive Power of Humor and Creativity in New York.
The $5 tickets for the May 1 drawing can be purchased at the KMC cafeteria on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or from any Smile Squad Clown. The print is on display at the KMC Gift Shop.
