Dar Awards Two Men For Community Service
Two men were honored with Excellence in Community Service Awards from the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Esther Reed Chapter.
Howard Pettibone was cited for citizenship. He has worked with the Boy Scouts of America for 39 years, guided 31 boys in achieving Eagle Scout awards and led 19 high-adventure trips, including a 50-mile backpack trip in the Glacier Peak Wilderness.
Chad Eastep, a security guard at the Ridpath Hotel, was recognized for heroism when his intervention during a 1995 shooting in the coffee shop saved lives.
Lizabeth Wells’ poem, “That Man,” has been published in the book “A Lasting Mirage,” compiled by the National Library of Poetry.
Wells has been writing for seven years.
Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Beth Rasmussen graduated from the Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.
Rasmussen, a 1996 graduate of Ferris High School, is the daughter of Bruce and Catherine Rasmussen, Spokane.
Marine Lance Cpl. Ryan Paikuli, was promoted to his present rank while serving with the 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Paikuli, a 1996 graduate of Medical Lake High School, was promoted for sustained superior job performance and proficiency.
Air Force Airman Justin Koerner graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Koerner is the son of Tammy and Bill Henshaw, Cheney, and a 1997 graduate of Cheney High School.
Ritzville (Wash.) Future Farmers of America once again won the parliamentary procedure contest and became national champions at the National FFA Convention.
This year’s team included Erin Weber, Jamie Wellsandt, Louie Mock, Stephanie Southwick, Veronica Schoesler, Jim Shepard, Tiffany Deking, Crystal Walli and advisor Mike Schrag.
Several Inland Northwest students have been accepted into the Washington State University’s Honor Program. This program attracts students who are serious about academics and active in student activities.
