Dollar Mixed In Listless Trading
The dollar rose against the Japanese yen Thursday but dipped slightly vs. the German mark in a lackluster trading session.
The dollar was boosted in early New York dealings by a U.S. government report showing strong economic growth with little inflation. But its gains against the yen were limited by lingering fears that Japan’s central bank could intervene in the market.
After rising against the mark on the economic data, the dollar retracted as traders nervously awaited this weekend’s summit of European leaders to launch the continent’s single currency.
