Hilda Herman Spokane
Visitation for Hilda Herman, 91, will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private burial will follow.
Mrs. Herman, who died Thursday, was born in Loveland, Colo.
She lived in the Toppenish and Wapato, Wash., areas before moving to Spokane 32 years ago.
Mrs. Herman took her nurse’s training at St. Ignatius Hospital in Colfax, Wash., graduating in 1930.
For many years, she nursed at various medical facilities in Colfax before moving to Spokane where she worked at Madison South until her retirement in 1976.
Survivors include three daughters, Louise Berroteran of Spokane, Greta Stueckle of Colfax and Sylvia Jensen of Moscow, Idaho; a son, Willy Herman of Redmond, Wash.; a sister, Rachel Whealen of Spokane; two brothers, Ben and Dan Kissler, both of Quincy, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren.

Robert Simpson Spokane
Memorial service for Robert E. Simpson, 77, will be at 2 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
Mr. Simpson, who was born in Fruita, Colo., died Thursday.
He graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo., and worked with his father at the Simpson Motor Company in Durango, Colo.
Mr. Simpson was president of the Beaver Mason Mining Company in Grand Junction, Colo., and then in 1974 went to work for the Bureau of Mines in Spokane.
A cement grouted roof bolt that he invented was named by Industrial Research and Development as one of the 100 most significant new technical products of 1980.
Survivors include his wife, Bula; three daughters, Michele Stout, Debra Wolfe and Lucinda Simpson, all of Denver; a son, Andrew Simpson McAvin of Houston; a stepdaughter, Jeanne Tessensohn of Spokane; and four grandsons.
Sean Herrin Spokane
Funeral Mass for Sean O. Herrin, 43, was Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Herrin, who was born at Burtonwood Air Force Base, England, died Friday.
He moved to Spokane in 1957 and graduated in 1977 from Gonzaga University with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications.
Mr. Herrin worked for the Spokane Catholic Diocese in public information and was currently the program manager for KSPS-TV.
He was a member of St. Charles Parish and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Mariel; two sons, Brian and Jay Herrin at home; his parents, Chester and Patricia Herrin of Spokane; a sister, Kathleen McLaughlin of Seattle; and five brothers, Mike, Mark, Jeff, Brad and Pat Herrin, all of Seattle.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gonzaga Preparatory School.
Anna ‘Pat’ Crow Post Falls
No service will be held for Anna Patricia “Pat” Crow, 88, at her request. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Crow, who was born in Texas, died Saturday.
She lived in California and worked as a hostess at the Clarion Hotel in Napa, Calif., retiring in 1993.
After her retirement, Mrs. Crow moved to Coeur d’Alene for six months and then moved to Post Falls two years ago.
Her husband, Jack, died in 1974.
Survivors include a brother, John Fahey of Bellevue, Wash.; four sisters, Louise Hostetler and Katheryn Jones, both of California, Frances Baldwin of Boise, and Lin Curran of Quincy, Wash.; and her friend and caregiver, Dan Karabedian of Post Falls.
Gladys Wiley Spokane
Private memorial service for Gladys J. Wiley, 78, will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born on Oklahoma, Mrs. Wiley, died Saturday.
She was raised in Arizona.
She worked in the Bremerton Naval Shipyards during World War II and moved to Spokane 52 years ago.
Mrs. Wiley worked as a bookkeeper.
Survivors include a son, Glenn Bradley of South Pasadena, Calif.; a daughter, Linda Allen of Spokane; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Irene Benner Spokane
Visitation for Irene H. Benner, 87, will be from noon to 6 p.m. today and from 8 to 9 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mrs. Benner, a 50-year Spokane resident, died Sunday.
She was born in Clay, Iowa, and worked as a schoolteacher and most recently as a housekeeper at Deaconess Medical Center.
Mrs. Benner was a member of Crestline Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Howard; three sons, Claude Benner of Camden, Maine, Jack Benner of Seattle and Dale Benner of Tacoma; two daughters, Marilyn Lewis of Spokane and Donna Douglas of Richland; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Marie Shoop Spokane
Funeral Mass for Marie J. Shoop, 61, is set for 2 p.m. today at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow at at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Shoop, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Thursday.
She worked for the Prevocational Office as a telemarketer and was a member of St. Patrick Parish.
Survivors include a son, Robert Shoop of Arcadia, Calif.; three daughters, Karen Swanson of Colbert, Kathleen Shoop of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kristine Shoopmann of Pasadena, Calif.; a brother, Michael Denuty of Spokane; a sister, Rosalie Miller of Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
John Preston Spokane
Graveside service for John Farries Preston, 80, will be at 3 p.m. today at Pines Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Preston, who was born in Rockham, S.D., died Thursday.
He worked as a building foreman and also was a farmer.
Mr. Preston was a 55-year resident of Spokane.
His wife, Ethel, died in 1990.
Survivors include a son, Gary Preston of Colville, Wash.; a daughter, Betty Dunlop of Annandale, Va.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Howard Davis Veradale
No service will be held for Howard Raymond Davis, 79, at his request. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Davis, who was born in Steptoe, Wash., died Saturday.
In 1940, he married Betty Vogt of Waitsburg, Wash.
He served in the 307th Infantry from 1944 to 1945. He received the Pacific Asiatic Purple Heart and was an acting sergeant in Okinawa where he was wounded.
He lived in Waitsburg until 1969. He retired from Touchet Valley Hardware in Touchet, Wash., where he was an electrician and service man.
Mr. Davis moved to Grand Coulee, Wash., where he was employed by Vennell Contractors until his retirement in 1980. He then moved to Veradale.
He was an honorary member of the Waitsburg High School ‘W’ Club, a past grand and past chief patriarch of Coppei Encampment, member of the Order of Odd Fellows, the American Legion Post 35, the Boy Scouts of America, a manager of Little League and Pony League Baseball, member of the Carpenters Local 1332 and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carol Clarke of Spokane; a son, Raymond Davis of Eugene, Ore.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Helen Binder Spokane
Funeral Mass for Helen T. Binder, 82, was Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Mrs. Binder, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Thursday.
She worked for the Red Lion in the Spokane Valley for 10 years and had been named employee of the month at one time.
Mrs. Binder then became a homemaker.
Her husband, Joseph, died in 1988.
Survivors include four sons, William and Francis Binder, both of Spokane, and Joseph and Louis Binder, both of Colville, Wash.; two daughters, Rosalie Huhs of Spokane and Marjorie Markin of Penticton, British Columbia; four brothers, Eddie and Richard Aker, both of Spokane, Carson Aker of Walla Walla and Francis Aker of Wisconsin; a sister, Lucille Aker of Spokane; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Estelle Cashatt Spokane
Service for Estelle G. Cashatt, 96, was Monday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial followed at Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. Cashatt, who was born in Peach, Wash., died Thursday.
She moved to Opportunity with her parents in 1907 and graduated from Vera High School.
Mrs. Cashatt graduated from Spokane University and Cheney Normal College as a music major.
She was the official carillonneur for Expo’ 74 and participated in the opening of the world’s fair.
Mrs. Cashatt played the organ for Cook’s Roller Rink during World War II when gas was rationed. She was permitted to have gas to get to the roller rink and play so that hundreds of service men from Farragut and Geiger would have entertainment.
She played the organ at Second Church of Christ for 22 years, at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home for 40 years and at the Spokane Coliseum from 1955 to 1974 for hockey games.
Mrs. Cashatt was a member of the El Karnak Temple Daughters of the Nile and served as organist for 14 years. She was a past high priestess of Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America and served as grand organist in Miami Beach in 1954, Detroit in 1955 and San Francisco in 1960.
She was a member of the Electa Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, past dean of the Spokane Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and the Spokane Valley Pioneers.
Mrs. Cashatt was a member of the Monday Musicals, the Daughters of the Nile and the Musician’s Union Local 105.
Her husband, Richard Cashatt, died in 1956.
Survivors include cousins, Helen Lynn of Spokane, Cloretta Keesling of Arlington, Va., and Merle Prater of Ames, Iowa.

John Evans Spokane
Memorial for John Charles Evans, 55, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.
Mr. Evans, who was born in Seattle, was found dead April 30.
He graduated in 1961 from John Rogers High School and then served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War until 1965.
After returning home, he graduated from Spokane Community College with a cardiopulmonary tech degree.
Mr. Evans worked at St. Lukes for several years and then received a welding degree from Spokane Community College.
He then worked for Welk Brothers and most recently at ASC.
Survivors include two daughters, Dianna Evans of Spokane and Lisa Peters of Covington, Ky.; his father, Johnny Evans of Spokane; four sisters, Sharon Cleghorn and Susan Rosenau, both of Spokane; Jannell Magnuson of St. Helen, Ore., and Donna Hill of Chatanooga, Tenn.; and two grandsons.

Margaret Pickett Spokane
Graveside service and burial for Margaret C. Pickett, 89, was Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mrs. Pickett, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.
She was raised in Ione, Wash., and lived in Spokane for 50 years.
Mrs. Pickett was a member of Hope Rebekah Lodge, and was a Spokane Indians follower when they were the farm team for the Dodgers.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Clayton; a son, Alan Pickett of Airway Heights; a daughter, Karen Morse of Spokane; a brother, Gene Robinson of Spokane; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Jack Syler Spokane
Service for Jack B. Syler, 77, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fairmount Memorial Park Sunset Mausoleum. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Syler, who died Sunday, was born in LeRoy, N.Y.
He moved to Spokane in 1930 and began his career with his father at a Texaco Service Station at Farr and Sprague.
In 1950, he operated Jack’s Texaco at Trent and Hamilton and in 1956, he moved the business to Riverside and Division. In 1967, he moved it to Division and Sharp where he started a business with his son, Ron.
Mr. Syler retired in 1980.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Frances; two daughters, Sharon McInerney and Marilee Eslick, both of Spokane; a son, Ron Syler of Spokane; a sister, Marian Cuendet of St. Petersburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Alice Smith Spokane
Service for Alice B. Smith, 100, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fairmount Memorial Park Sunset Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will follow. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith, a 56-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.
She was born in Moravia, Idaho, and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and was a past president of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Norman Smith of Portland and Donald Smith of Aloha, Ore.; four daughters, Mary Myers of Spokane, Lois Irving and Carie Olson, both of Coeur d’Alene and Vivian West of East Sound, Wash.; a sister, Nora Teters of Nehalem, Ore.; 27 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Ronald Erwin Wallace
Memorial service for Ronald James Erwin, 84, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wallace United Methodist Church. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Erwin, who was born in Oregon, died Saturday.
He moved to the Silver Valley in 1937 from Baker, Ore., and worked as a machinist for The Day Mines for 41 years, retiring in 1978.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a son, Jim Erwin of Oregon; a daughter, Judy Lane of Cusick, Wash.; a brother, Leslie Erwin of Oregon; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Carroll Hutchins Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Carroll E. Hutchins, 82, was Saturday at the Ramsey Kingdom Hall in Coeur d’Alene. Private family inurnment was held at Greenwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Hutchins, who was born in Portland, died Wednesday.
He graduated in 1935 from Hood River (Ore.) High School and in 1937 married Opal Swanson in Coeur d’Alene.
Mr. Hutchins worked as a toolmaker for many years.
He lived in Coeur d’Alene for 50 years and was a member of the Ramsey Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard Hutchins of Chattaroy; three daughters, Ina Clark of Lake Tahoe, Nev., Carol Hutchins of Coeur d’Alene and Janey Jones of Albany, Ore.; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
