Outstanding Students Recognized For Successes

Outstanding University of Idaho students have been chosen as Trio Achievers recognized by the UI Student Support Services. Students selected have succeeded in completing their educational degree goals while having to overcome obstacles and challenges not presented to the typical college student, such as economic disadvantage or disability.

The awards went to:

Rocky Miller, Adult Education; and Robert Seward, German, both of Moscow; and Carol Zarate, Sociology, of Tensed.

Miller will be receiving his master of education degree this spring and intends to pursue his Ph.D. at the UI in adult education. In addition to taking his course work, Miller is also teaching sign language at UI Continuing Education and at Lewis-Clark State College.

Seward will be receiving a bachelor of arts degree in German from the College of Letters and Science this spring. He is also pursuing his secondary education degree in German and social studies and will complete this degree in December 1998.

Zarate will be receiving a bachelor of science degree in sociology with an emphasis in social work this spring. Her goal is to eventually pursue a master’s degree in social work.

University of Idaho students Christa Manis of Hayden and Brian Fitzpatrick of Hayden Lake have been appointed to serve on the Law Review scholastic journal staff for 1997-98.

Local UI students have been awarded the Alumni Award for Excellence. All students are seniors with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.51 or higher, have been enrolled at UI at least three semesters and have an outstanding campus activity record. Recipients are listed by hometown.
