Hagadone, State Consider Trading Land Two Small Parcels Are Located Near Golf Course

The Hagadone Corp. may trade land with rock quarry potential for two pieces of Idaho Department of Transportation land near its golf course on Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive.

The Transportation Department expects to make a decision on the trade late this month or early next month, said Barbara Babic of the department.

In January, the state transportation board ordered its North Idaho office to get rid of two parcels of land near The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course, which is owned by The Hagadone Corp. The Transportation Department routinely disposes of excess highway rights of way.

The board also directed the department to consider making a swap with The Hagadone Corp. Transportation Department rules require that Hagadone already own the land the state would trade for and that the land be of value to the department for a current or future road project.

Hagadone purchased an easement across one of the pieces of state property - a long, narrow strip of steep ground between Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive and the golf course - early this year.

The other piece of ground is much more desirable - nearly half an acre of property with a view of Lake Coeur d’Alene. It is located near the Potlatch Hill overpass on the south side of Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive.

The Idaho Parks and Recreation Department would like to have the property to use in conjunction with the Centennial Trail. But the agency does not have the money to buy the land.

The Transportation Department has talked about publicly auctioning off the land if it cannot work out a trade with Hagadone.

WHAT’S NEXT Transportation Department expects to make a land trade decision late this month or early in June.
