Happy Days Here Again For Baio? Not Likely
When he was a kid starring on “Happy Days” and “Charles in Charge,” Scott Baio’s impish gall may have endeared him to audiences. But at 36, the act may be wearing a little thin.
Busty Jenny McCarthy recently told an interviewer that Baio was incorrigible. And now “Wild Things” star Neve Campbell reports that he tried to put the moves on her when she first got to Tinseltown.
“He was trying to pick me up and told me not to bother trying to be an actress because I’d only end up on the casting couch,” she told London-based FHM magazine this month. “He was a little persistent, but I beat him at pool and I think he was a little put off by that.”
Tommy Lee-leaver Pamela Anderson is reported to be finding solace with ex-fiance Baio.
Loose talk
After Lisa Kudrow gave birth earlier this month to a healthy boy, “Friends” castmate Matt LeBlanc cracked (in People magazine), “I’m really happy that Lisa’s baby is here. And I was just kidding about offering to baby-sit.”

Here’s your brainlessness on drugs
Last week’s party after the New York premiere of “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” based on gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson’s 1972 book, triggered flashbacks among guests. Author George Plimpton recalled “one particularly bad” acid trip he shared with Thompson at a Hollywood hotel. “The only way I could recover,” said Plimpton, “was to go to an X-rated theater. On the way, a flock of pigeons jumped up and scattered. It gave me a real fright. When I finally got there, I found a burned-out hulk of a theater.” Like, wow, man.
OK, so he’s not dead yet - but he’s close
“Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” director Terry Gilliam told The New York Times that Hunter S. Thompson “died around 1974, and the guy that’s there is this mummified version of him.” But at last week’s party, Thompson and Gilliam were looking buddy-buddy. “I meant he’s become such an icon that the world has stuck him in that time (the ‘70s) and he’s gone along with it … for better or worse.”
It’s out of fashion to use fists in arguments
A fashion stylist says she took a punch in the face from Quentin Tarantino, even if he meant to hit her boyfriend. Leila Mwangi alleges in a $15 million lawsuit that the screenwriter hit her in the face at a Manhattan restaurant May 2. The trouble started when Tarantino and Mwangi’s photographer boyfriend started arguing about the way Hollywood portrays black Americans. Fists started flying.
Did the director demand a screen test?
Anjelica Huston, the director, didn’t have to look far to find a star for her second film. Huston also will play the lead in “The Mammy,” an Irish comedy-drama about a feisty young woman left with several children to care for after her husband dies. “I am interested only in directing a project to which I have a very strong connection, (and) this script touched me in a very powerful way,” she said.
