Landscaping For Birds
Backyard wildlife fair
Take a walking tour through a backyard wildlife sanctuary and see how easy it could be to invite wildlife into your property during the eighth-annual Open Yard Bird Fair next weekend.
The event, co-sponsored by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department, will be held Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at Blossoms and Bloomers north of Spokane off Bigelow Gulch.
Ron and Gerry Krueger, charter members of the state’s Backyard Wildlife Sanctuary Program, will open their yard and nursery so people can browse. Guided tours will show how different plants, shrubs and trees can double as great habitat and low-maintenance landscaping.
To reach Blossoms and Bloomers at 11415 E. Krueger Lane, drive one mile east on Bigelow Gulch Road from its intersection with Argonne Road, then go one mile north on Pleasant Prairie Road to Krueger Lane and one-half mile east on Krueger Lane.
