Boise River Outfitting Draws Wide Support

From Staff

A plan to open a stretch of the lower Boise River to outfitting has drawn support from residents and water users.

A Boise outfitter is asking the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board to open the Boise River through parts of western Ada County and Canyon County that are currently off-limits.

John Heimer wants to give nature rafting trips similar to those he now offers through Boise River Tours from Barber Park to Ann Morrison Park. His plan has won support from those who see it as a safe opportunity to educate tourists and residents about the environment.

“This is such a great opportunity for people to really love the Boise River,” said Sue Chelstrom of the Idaho Trails Council.

But it also has raised concerns from property owners who are worried about how commercial outfitting would affect the surrounding land that is largely private and agricultural.
