‘Faith & Values’ Package Debuts

Add Spokesman-Review on Google

Today marks the debut of our new “Faith & Values” package of stories.

Because so many people are interested in such topics, we will feature stories on faith and values on the cover of Saturday’s IN Life section a couple times a month and on Page 3 every week.

In order to better reflect the diversity of thought about spirituality in our region, we’re also renaming Saturday’s Page 3, from Religion to Faith & Values.

Some new features will be added, including short profiles of houses of worship and spiritual leaders. Each will have a picture, and each will give curious readers a glimpse of where we worship and who leads us in our spiritual quests. These two features will alternate every week.

If you are curious about a church or other house of worship that you drive by often, let us know and we’ll try to find out about it. Or about a spiritual leader.

Another improvement will be the addition of short columns by readers, be they pastors, parents, singles, teens - everyone is invited to contribute. We ask that these columns be about spiritual quests, how we seek out the holy in our daily lives. Or about important and defining moments in our faith journeys. The space limit is 400 to 500 words. We’ll run these every other week.

Paul Graves, our Sandpoint columnist, will continue writing his column a couple times a month.

Our notes column will focus on events that appeal to the community at large.

And we will continue to publish the very best stories of national and international importance.

There is a downside to all these additions: We will no longer have space to publish the calendar of services. This calendar has grown so long that we don’t have space for content that appeals to a broader range of readers. So instead, we will be using that space for such content. However, regular weekly events such as services will be listed on our Web site, www.spokane.net/religion.
