Mayor To Share Lessons From Crisis

Mayor Steve Judy has learned a few things about dealing with a controversial parade through his town.

On Dec. 3, he’ll share advice on dealing with parades like the one the Aryan Nations held in July with other cities at the National League of Cities Conference in Kansas City.

Judy, Memphis City Councilman Rickey Peete and New Braunfels, Texas, Mayor Jan Kennady will speak and moderate on a panel on the issue. Both Memphis and New Braunfels had similar marches in their cities last year and this year.

In addition to talking about how Coeur d’Alene handled the parade, Judy said he plans to learn what he can from how other cities dealt with their parades.

By the end of 1998, more than 55 such marches will have taken place, according to the National League of Cities.
