Sasquatch Win, Take Third Place
Sau’l Mendoza and Herbert Barbosa helped Community Colleges of Spokane break loose in the second half Sunday for a 4-1 win over Clark College that gave the Sasquatch third place in the NWAACC men’s soccer tournament at Bothell, Wash.
After Clark’s Penguins stifled the Sasquatch (19-2-1) with an offside trap defense through the first half, Mendoza snapped a 1-1 tie with an unassisted goal after 66 minutes. He scored again 13 minutes later on a pass from Barbosa, who scored the final goal himself after Kelly Tifft’s second assist of the game.
Skagit Valley defeated Tacoma CC 1-0 for the title.
The No. 2-ranked University of Washington Huskies (16-4) were dealt a stunning 2-1 defeat by North Carolina-Greensboro in the first round of the men’s NCAA Division I soccer tournament at Seattle.
