Horse Destroyed After Bear Attack

A grizzly bear attacked a corralled mare, forcing the rancher to destroy the horse.

Authorities believed the bear was heading into the high country above Driggs for the winter when the incident occurred last week.

Investigators speculate that Bill Robinson’s mare was trying to defend her foal when the bear clawed or bit a hind leg.

Fish and Game Department officers have found no trace of the bear since the attack.

Grizzlies killed 40 sheep in two incidents this year in the same general area.
