Reed Ockey Spokane
Memorial service for Reed Ockey, 70, will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 10 at Christ Community Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ockey, who was born in Murray, Utah, died Wednesday.
He married Alexandra Condas in 1952 in Salt Lake City.
Mr. Ockey worked for the United States Bureau of Ships in San Francisco before moving to Spokane in 1954.
In Spokane he was employed by the Carter Oil Co. as a construction and maintenance engineer. Mr. Ockey was transferred to Seattle for two years before returning to Spokane. He then became part owner of Northwestern Construction Inc. He also formed Northwestern Metal Buildings Inc. and Farm Systems Inc., which sold Butler commercial and farm buildings.
Mr. Ockey served three terms on the board of Associated Central Contractors before retiring from the general construction business in 1977.
He went on to work for the Spokane County Department of Building and Safety as a building inspector from 1979 to 1997.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; a daughter, Ellen Ockey Johnson of Sacramento, Calif.; and a son, Scott Ockey of Salt Lake City.

Pauline Courteau Spokane
Memorial service for Pauline J. Courteau, 92, will be at 11 a.m. today at Holman Gardens Retirement Center. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Courteau died Wednesday.
She graduated from North Central High School.
Mrs. Courteau was a homemaker and a member of the Parent Teacher Association of Spokane, the Silver Spurs Parent Group, Rotary, the Realtor’s Board State Convention and the Women’s Bar Auxiliary. She was also a member and former president of the Lincoln First Federal Savings and Loan Women’s Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Courteau of Spokane and Richard Courteau of Port Orchard, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
Sophia Karst Spokane
Memorial service for Sophia Teana Karst, 63, will be at 11 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home.
Mrs. Karst, who was born in Pikeville, Ky., died Wednesday.
She married Richard Karst in 1987.
She was a homemaker and care giver.
Mrs. Karst had been a resident of Spokane for 18 years.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Mike, Ivan and Bradley Hodges, and Fred Walton; four daughters, Ainer and Juanita Lane, Treicia Pace and Teana Shock; three brothers, Chester, O.H. and Hassan Kiser; a sister, Juanita Hall; 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Maria Cross Spokane
Funeral Mass for Maria J. Cross, 96, will be at 9 a.m. today at St. Paschal Catholic Church. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cross, who was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, died Wednesday.
She had been a resident of Spokane and a member of St. Paschal’s Catholic Church for 38 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Harris and Kathleen Smith, both of Spokane; a son, Tom Cross of Kingman, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Joyce Taylor Deer Park
Memorial service for Joyce Adair Lowry Taylor, 54, will be at 2 p.m. today at Deer Park Open Door Congregational Church. Inurnment will be at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. A reception will follow at the Deer Park Eagles Lodge. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Taylor, a lifetime Deer Park resident, died Wednesday.
She graduated from Deer Park High School in 1962 and became a licensed beautician.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park, and a charter member and past president of the Eagles Lodge in Deer Park.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Tom; two sons, Brian and Jim Taylor, and a daughter, Shellie Baydo, all of Deer Park; three brothers, Fred Lowry of Spokane, Dale Lowry of Moses Lake and Robert Lowry of Iowa; three sisters, Lillie Gibson of Deer Park, Betty Mantz of Soap Lake, Wash., and Faith Terrell of Rosalia, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Ralph Howe Medical Lake
No service will be held for Ralph Howe, 68, at his request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Howe, who was born in Adair County, Mo., died Tuesday.
In 1950 he married Lena Kerns and they moved from Spanway, Wash., to Spokane.
Mr. Howe retired from the Army in 1973 after 26 years of service. He served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969.
From 1979 to 1983 he worked for Washington Trust Bank as a vault teller.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 45.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, David and Henry Howe, both of Spokane, Edward Piere of New Baden, Ill., and Ralph Howe of Tacoma; a daughter, Edith Black of Spokane; a sister, Edna Kelsey of Greentop, Mo.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
John Suden Oroville, Wash.
Funeral for John E. Suden, 61, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Oroville Catholic Church. Bergh Funeral Service in Oroville is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Suden, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.
He graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School and Gonzaga University.
In 1967, he married Ruth Ridpath Belles in Spokane.
Mr. Suden worked for the Grant County and Okanogan County Public Utility District for many years.
Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Pete Belles of Omak, Wash., and John Belles of Riverside; a brother, Pete Suden, and a sister, Margaret Spencer, both of Spokane; and three grandchildren.
Carol Many Colbert
Funeral for Carol F. Many, 53, is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Many, who was born in Asotin, Wash., died Wednesday.
She graduated from Washington State University and retired from teaching at University High School.
She was a member of the Lilac City and Spokane Dog Training clubs, and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority Alumni.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry; her mother and stepfather, Ortha and Don Thomason of Spokane; a sister, Connie Jelinek of Clarkston, Wash.; and several grandchildren.
May Ann Lauritzen Spokane
Memorial service for May Ann Lauritzen, 75, is planned for noon Saturday at the Riverside Mausoleum at Riverside Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lauritzen, who was born in Natal, British Columbia, died Sept. 23.
She married Archie Lauritzen in 1946 in Spokane.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Eagles Lodge 2.
Her husband died in 1982.
Survivors include two sons, James and Michael Lauritzen, both of Spokane; a daughter, Marilyn Dent of Crestview, Fla.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.
Guy Parmley Spokane
Memorial service for Guy Miller Parmley, 87, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at North Hill Christian Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Parmley, who died Thursday, was born in Bremerton.
He graduated from high school in Bremerton.
In 1934 he married Marion Hockaday.
He worked in the transportation department at the Bremerton Naval Shipyards during World War II and was later a service manager for an automotive electric shop.
In 1945 Mr. Parmley moved to Chelan, Wash., where he owned and operated an automotive electric and parts shop. He sold the shop in 1952 and went to work for Washington Water Power at the Chelan Falls power plant.
In 1954 he was transferred to Spokane and worked as a foreman in WWP’s construction maintenance department. He retired in 1975. Mr. Parmley was also a first aid instructor and department representative on the board of Washington Water Power Employees Aid Association for many years.
He was a member of the Washington Water Power Trailblazers, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 77 and was a member and elder emeritus of North Hill Christian Church.
His wife preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Johnson of East Wenatchee, Wash.,; a sister, Betty Honodel of Spokane; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Allen Larsen Spokane
No service will be held for Allen D. Larsen, 81, at his request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Forest City, Iowa, Mr. Larsen, died Saturday.
He served in the Army during World War II in the 3rd Infantry Division, 15th Regiment. He received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Battle Stars, a Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, two overseas service bars and a combat badge.
Mr. Larsen later worked as a mechanic. He was a resident of Spokane for the 52 years.
He was a member of the Society of the 3rd Infantry Division OP4 and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dorothy; two sons, Allen and Rolland Larsen, both of Spokane; two daughters, Dorothy Dorine of Spokane and Charnell Larsen of Palmdale, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Priscilla Cokley of Astoria, Ore., and Lucille Voss of North Platte, Neb.; three brothers, Arlen Larsen of Scappoose, Ore., Arnold Larson of Corte Madera, Calif., and James Larsen of Sibley, Iowa; five sisters, Jean Larsen of Stuart, Fla., Lucille Bishop of Richmond Beach, Wash., Ardith Carlson of Grand Rapids, Mich., Doris Klingenberg of Adrian, Minn., and Jessie Kaciuba of Toms River, N.J.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Patricia Austin Coeur d’Alene
No service will be held for Patricia Ann ‘Pat’ Austin, 78. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Austin, who was born in Kuna, Idaho, died Thursday.
She grew up and graduated from high school in California and moved to Boise in 1969.
Mrs. Austin moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1972 and was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Austin of Rathdrum and Kenneth Austin of Texas; two daughters, Lynda Whitlock of Spokane and Joan Judd of Idaho Falls; two sisters, Helen Hansen of Boise and Dorothy Altmaier of Spokane; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
