Clark Fork, Fca Start State Play Today
An extra day, double the tournament.
The State A-4 volleyball tournament, which begins today, has been expanded from eight to 16 teams. That’s why the North Star League will be represented by two teams, Clark Fork and Falls Christian.
Under the new format, the teams are divided into four pools of four teams each. All teams will play three matches in the opening round, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the double-elimination portion of the tourney on Friday.
Clark Fork (25-1 overall) figures to be playing Friday and perhaps on Saturday for a trophy. Falls Christian (15-7) will be hard-pressed to play beyond today.
The NSL teams will be playing in separate pools but at the same site, Burley High School.
Clark Fork is in Pool B and is joined by Midvale, Mackay and Dietrich. The Wampus Cats are the lone district champ in their pool.
The Wampus Cats open with Midvale at 10 a.m. PST.
Falls Christian is in tough company in Pool A. The Eagles are joined by three-time state champ Troy (22-1), Carey and Notus. FCA played Troy twice during the season, losing both matches in two games.
FCA takes on Notus at 11:30.
The other two pools will be played at Declo High School, where the tourney will conclude the last two days. Genesee, Rockland, Greenleaf Friends and Castleford are in Pool C and Hagerman, Murtaugh, Cambridge and Cascade are in Pool D.
