North Idaho College will begin defense of its NJCAA national wrestling title by trying to defend the school’s honor.

NIC’s annual alumni match starts at 7:30 tonight at Christianson Gym.

“Practice has been going good,” said second-year coach Pat Whitcomb, who directed NIC to a co-championship with Lassen College last season.

NIC’s lineup will feature Shaun Williams, brothers Brandon and Justin Springer, and highly touted Oregon State transfer Troy Sabat, who redshirted last season. Williams and Brandon Springer placed second at nationals.

The alumni roster includes two-time NJCAA champ Mark Echeverria, Mead’s Travis Hughes and Seth Kernodle, Jon Parsons, Ray Routh, Coeur d’Alene’s Mike Smith and several members of last year’s team.
