Weekly contra dancing starts Saturday evening at the Sandpoint Community Center.

KOOTENAI COUNTY Twin Lakes
Lakeland graduate Tracy Hanson, the LPGA and US Bank are co-sponsoring the 5th Annual Lakeland School Golf Fund Scramble at Twin Lakes Village Golf Course on Oct. 3. Proceeds will go to promote junior golf in the Lakeland School District.
Awards will be given for team low gross and net scores, along with closest to the pin and longest drives.
Teams for the 18-hole scramble will consist of five players. Entry fee is $10 plus green fees.

Tom Cass presented a petition of 500 signatures in support of restoring Paradise Creek to members of the city’s Public Works/ Finance Committee on Aug. 31.
The petition, from the Coalition for a Flood Free Paradise Creek, advises the cleanup of the stream.
Cass is leading the coalition that gathered signatures from residents interested in having the city remove obstructions causing the Paradise Creek problem.
SHOSHONE COUNTY Osburn
Idaho State Veterans Service Officer Ken Pitcher will be at the Veterans Administration Mobile Clinic site at the VFW Post in Osburn on Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. He will assist veterans and their dependents in filing claims. He also will provide information about the Department of Veterans Affairs and veterans benefits.

Citizens are invited to comment on plans to remove the peregrine falcon from the protection of the federal Endangered Species Act. Sightings of the bird have been reported in the Kootenai National Forest.

Volunteers are needed to begin construction on the second Pend Oreille County Habitat for Humanity home. Construction starts Sept. 15. Habitat has $30,000 in the bank to start the project, which gives low-income families a chance to earn sweat equity in a home it can then purchase for a reasonable sum.

Spokane County Fire District No. 4 will hold a free cardiopulmonary resuscitation class for the public Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at Station 44, 17207 N. Newport Highway.
