Gilman Anderson Moses Lake
Graveside service for Gilman “Gil” Albert Anderson, 83, will be at 11 a.m. today at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rosalia, Wash.
Mr. Anderson, who was born in Harlem, Mont., died Friday.
He moved to Washington in 1934 to attend Kinman Business College.
Upon his graduation in 1936 he began working for Farmers Warehouse Co. in Farmington, Wash.
In 1939 he moved to Rosalia and began a career with Rosalia Producers, Inc.
He married Earlene Wyer in 1941 and they moved to the Columbia Basin where he began managing Columbia Producers in 1964. His home was in Moses Lake.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Phyllis Suksdorf of Pasco and Marsha Schlangen of Spokane; two brothers, Clifford Anderson of Moses Lake and Palmer Anderson of Pensacola, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Arlene Johnson Coeur d’Alene
Service for Arlene Mildred Johnson, 77, will be at 10 a.m. today at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Rockford (Wash.) Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson, who was born in St. Maries, died Saturday.
She graduated from St. Maries High School and then ranched and farmed at Lake Creek near Worley, Idaho.
Mrs. Johnson worked as a cook at Leo’s Worley Club for many years. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1973 where she was a cook and kitchen manager at Templin’s Motor Inn and the Great American Spaghetti Co.
She moved to Rockford in 1988 before returning to Coeur d’Alene earlier this year.
Her husband, Andrew “Bud”, died in 1973.
Survivors include two sons, Randall Johnson of Wyoming and Larry Johnson of Rockford; four daughters, Bernice Yandt of California, Mathel Rogers of Wyoming, Andrea Smith of Valleyford, Wash., and Roxanne Johnson of Athol, Idaho; a brother, Charles Ebert, and a sister, Janie Blevins, both of St. Maries; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Nora Cooper Pinehurst, Idaho
Service for Nora Lee Cooper, 75, will be at 5 p.m. today at Silver Valley Church of the Nazarene in Kellogg. Private graveside service will be Thursday at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cooper, who was born in Arkansas, died Sunday.
She moved to the Silver Valley from Arkansas in the early 1940s and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Cooper also drove the meal site bus for area senior citizens for five years.
She was a member of Silver Valley Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school and served on the church board.
Her first husband, Daniel Lebow, died in 1977.
Survivors include her husband, Roy; two sons, Jerry Lebow of Pinehurst and Ron Lebow of Newport, Wash.; a daughter, Patricia Reynolds of Arkansas; two sisters, Nellie Holcombe of Texas and Neva Brown of California; a brother, Neil Jenkins of California; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Katherine Nelson Badraun Coeur d’Alene
Visitation for Katherine “Kay” Nelson Badraun, 92, is planned for 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene.
Born in Spokane, Mrs. Badraun died Thursday.
She graduated from Priest River High School and in 1927 from the University of Idaho with an education degree.
Mrs. Badraun taught English and drama and was a basketball coach in Waterville, Wash., and Newport, Wash.
She lived in Priest River and was a member of the Congregational Church, the Cultus Club women’s civic group and was involved in the organization of the Priest Lake Community Church and the Kalispell Bay Water and Sewer Districts.
Mrs. Badraun later taught elementary school and volunteered as a reading teacher.
She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1970 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church Women’s Association and choir.
Her husband, Nick, died in 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Badraun Klotz of Coeur d’Alene; two sons, Stephen Badraun of Coeur d’Alene and Jerome Badraun of Portland; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Carl Schell Ritzville, Wash.
Visitation for Carl John Schell, 83, will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ritzville. Private vault interment will follow at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Mr. Schell, who was born in Ruff, Wash., died Sunday.
In 1937 he married Eleanor Melcher and they moved to Adams County, where they farmed the Finney Place, 25 miles west of Ritzville, for six years.
They then farmed the Kagele Farm for five years before purchasing their own farm 25 miles east of Ritzville in 1953. They retired in 1972.
Mr. Schell served as a deacon at Emanuel Lutheran Church for many years and was a member of the Washington Association of Growers Association, the Ritzville Gun Club and was a past board member of the Ritzville Warehouse Co. for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry Schell of Ritzville; two sisters, Anna Kuest of Moses Lake and Gloria Sutton of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Leonard ‘L.V.’ Petry Spokane
Funeral for Leonard V. “L.V.” Petry, 77, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. Petry, who died Friday, was born in Sheldon, Miss.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Petry worked for Union Iron Works for many years and then for Coeur d’Alene Steel Co. for 24 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a 50-year resident of Spokane.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Gladys; a son, Rick Petry of Minneapolis; a brother, Joe Petry of Spokane; and one grandchild.
Wilbur Mitchell Colville, Wash.
Funeral for Wilbur D. Mitchell, 63, will be at 2 p.m Thursday at Colville United Methodist Church. Graveside service will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Mitchell, who was born in Kettle Falls, died Saturday.
He graduated from Marcus High School in 1953 and in 1959 married Diane Kiesz in Coeur d’Alene.
He worked as a millwright at Northwest Alloys Magnesium Reduction plant for the past 23 years.
Mr. Mitchell served on the Alcoa Fire Brigade for 23 years and was a leader of Colville Boy Scout Troop 900.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Heidi Dickinson of Olympia; two sons, Roger Mitchell of Eugene, Ore., and Jeff Mitchell of Colville; and one grandchild.
Robert Ponsness Spokane
Memorial service for Robert D. Ponsness, 72, was Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home.
Mr. Ponsness, who was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Friday.
He was a 30-year Spokane resident and served in the Army Air Corps and was in the pre-flight program during World War II.
He worked as a senior research engineer for Lockheed Missiles and Space Division. He also worked as a project engineer for American Sign and Indicator, as a production engineer for Vari-Tronics, and as a materials processor at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
He graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1995.
He was a private pilot and a HAM radio operator - W7LTV.
Survivors include two sons, Steven and David Ponsness, both of Spokane; and five grandchildren.
Robert Braden Spokane
Funeral Mass for Robert D. Braden, 77, was Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial followed at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Mr. Braden, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.
He served in the Navy during World War II and later worked for the Army Corps of Engineers.
Mr. Braden was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Catherine; two sons, Michael Braden of Santa Clara, Calif., and Tim Braden of Fort Lewis, Wash.; four stepdaughters, Jane Weakland and Nancy Daws, both of Spokane, Linda Duby of Wyandotte, Mich., and Susan Elbert of Annapolis, Md.; a stepson, Michael Albert of Issaquah, Wash.; two sisters, Ellen Braden and Lorraine Barry, both of Spokane; and numerous grandchildren.
Christian Nelson Spokane
Memorial service for Christian E. Nelson, 75, was Tuesday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Nelson, who was born in Hawthorne, Wis., died Thursday.
He served in the Army during World War II and worked as a stationary engineer at Gonzaga University and also at a lumber mill.
He was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51 and the Disabled American Veterans.
His wife, Ruth, died in 1990.
Survivors include five daughters, Christine Baggett, Cheri Roberts, and Linda Tredor, all of Spokane, Dawn Freeman of Elk and Marie Hamil of Okeene, Okla.; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Sidney Moore Post Falls
Memorial service for Sidney Nelson Moore, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Moore, who died Friday, was born in Sunburst, Mont.
He moved to Post Falls in 1923 from Cranbrook, British Columbia, and worked for Kaiser Trentwood for 30 years, retiring as a remelt production foreman in 1976.
Mr. Moore served on the Post Falls School Board in the 1950s and 1960s and the East Greenacres Water District for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Doris; a daughter, Barbara Moore of Post Falls; two sons, Richard Moore of Post Falls and William Moore of Troy, Mont.; a sister, Mabel Keele of Renton, Wash.; a brother, Fred Moore of Post Falls; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Leona Rickey Spokane
Funeral for Leona I. Rickey, 82, was Tuesday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - North. Entombment followed at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Rickey, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.
She worked for Senior Chore Services for 10 years and was a member of Mountainview Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Patrick; a son, Patrick Rickey Jr., of Elk; three daughters, Belva Whitlock of Kennewick, Joyce Bass of Spokane and Cheryl Loer of Marshville, N.C.; a brother, Samuel Flanders of Spokane; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Helen Beach Spokane
No service will be held for Helen Beach. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Beach, who was born in Ekalaka, Mont., died Friday. She was 68.
In 1948, she married Raymond Beach in Bellingham.
She was a homemaker and a Spokane resident since 1951.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Karen Pring and Cindy Perkins, both of Spokane, and Susan Redman of Spirit Lake, Idaho; four sisters, Peggy and Jackie Beach, both of Spokane, Emmabelle Gooding of Forks, Wash., and Ruth LaPlante of Bellingham; and eight grandchildren.
Jenny Haidey Spokane
No service will be held for Jenny M. Haidey. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Haidey, who was born in Saskatchewan, died Sunday. She was 82.
She worked as a housekeeper and was a 78-year resident of Spokane.
Ms. Haidey is survived by a brother, Nick Haidey of Medical Lake; a niece, one great-niece and two great-grandnieces.
Donald ‘Bud’ Brown Greenacres
Funeral for Donald D. “Bud” Brown, 74, was Tuesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial followed at Pines Cemetery.
Mr. Brown, owner of Bud Brown Logging Co. of Washington and Idaho, died Thursday.
He was born in Moscow, Idaho, and served in the Navy during World War II.
In 1945, he married Christine Cox.
He operated his logging company for about 45 years and retired in 1993.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sharon Berges of Spokane; two sons, Ronald Brown of Gresham, Ore., and Donald Brown of Post Falls; a sister, Margaret Welch of Auburn, Wash.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Shirley McComas Spokane
Memorial service for Shirley I. McComas, 82, was Tuesday at Unity Church.
Mrs. McComas, who was born in Columbia Falls, Mont., died Saturday.
She was a homemaker and had been a resident of Spokane for 47 years.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Guy; and a son, Floyd McComas of Spokane.
John Koski Coeur d’Alene
Private service for John F. Koski, 87, will be held at a later date at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.
Born in Michigan, Mr. Koski died Friday.
He moved to Coeur d’Alene 50 years ago and worked as a logger.
Survivors include his wife, Helvi; a daughter, Carol Swink of Coeur d’Alene; and two grandsons, John Swink of Spokane, and Jim Swink of Coeur d’Alene.
Leone Ackerman Spokane
Memorial service for Leone Ackerman, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Sunday as part of regular worship services at Bethel Church of the Nazarene. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ackerman, who was born in Mansfield, Pa., died Aug. 31.
Mrs. Ackerman was a Spokane resident for 32 years, was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene.
Her husband George died in 1975.
There are no surviving family members.
