From Staff Reports

A logger who was cutting down a tree along Highway 57 was killed after being struck by the tree.

Witnesses said that after being struck by the tree Tuesday morning, 55-year-old Phillip White managed to stand up and talk to co-workers before slowly collapsing. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the deputy coroner.

White was a lifelong resident of Priest River. His body was taken to Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash.
