Patricia Marcum Spokane

Funeral for Patricia E. Marcum, 57, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Macabee Cemetery in Sprague, Wash. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marcum, who was born in Peoria, Ill., died Sunday.

She graduated from Central Valley High School in 1959.

In 1985, she married Howard Marcum.

Mrs. Marcum worked for Spokane First National Bank for more than 20 years. In 1991, she began working for Empire Spray as a secretary/ bookkeeper.

Survivors include her husband; her parents, Betty and George Burbidge of Sequim, Wash.; a daughter, Shelly Tajii of Manteca, Calif.; a son, Tim Peebler of Everett; a brother, George Burbidge of Bothell, Wash.; a sister, Kathleen Law of Mountain View, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Ronald Weller Chattaroy

Memorial service for Ronald T. Weller, 56, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Memorial Chapel. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Weller, who was born in Seattle, died Friday.

He served in the Coast Guard and the Navy, receiving the National Defense Service Medal. He also received a Good Conduct Medal from the Coast Guard.

He was a 50-year Spokane resident.

Mr. Weller worked as a motorcycle mechanic and was a member of the American Legion Post 9.

Survivors include his wife of five years, Lenore; his mother, Gladys Moore of Athol, Idaho; his father, Lionel Weller; two sons, Ryan Weller of Spokane and John Hicks of Clark Fork, Idaho; a daughter, Desiree Hicks of Chattaroy; three brothers; Ted Berham, Jeff Golik and Paul Laton; and one grandchild.

Rosemary Beck Deer Park

Funeral for Rosemary Beck, 84, will be at 11 a.m. today at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery in the Spokane Valley.

Mrs. Beck, who was born in Corning, Ark., died last Thursday.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary at Post 1435 in Spokane, Post 3067 in Deer Park, and Post 549 in Tucson, Ariz. She spent her summers in Yuma, Ariz.

Her husband, Elmer, died in 1987.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Hansen and Joyce Graham, both of Deer Park, and Erylne Hooper of Farmington, N.M.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Martha Mifflin Spokane

Private family gathering was held for Martha Jean Mifflin, 63.

Mrs. Mifflin, who was born in Miles City, Mont., died Sunday.

She graduated from the University of Washington in 1957 and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.

Mrs. Mifflin was a Spokane resident for 39 years.

Survivors include her husband John Mifflin, Jr.; a son, John Mifflin III, and a daughter, Janine Forseth, both of Spokane; a brother Ross Martin of Seattle; and two grandchildren.

Maggie Stone Veradale

Visitation for Maggie Stone, 79, will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South. Funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Full Gospel Mission For All Nations. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Stone, who died Tuesday, was born in Brownsville, Texas.

She worked as a custodian for the Bureau of Reclamation at Grand Coulee Dam for 32 years before retiring in 1979.

Mrs. Stone moved to Spokane in 1980.

She was a charter member of the Full Gospel Mission For All Nations.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, the Rev. Phillip Stone; a son, Donald Stone of Spokane; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Doris See Ephrata, Wash.

No service will be held for Doris M. See, 70. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. See, who was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, died last Thursday.

She worked as a nurses aide in elder care and was a resident of Spokane for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Gale Minor and Joan McBride, both of Soap Lake, Wash.; a son, Chester McBride of Aurelia, Iowa; and six grandchildren.

Doris ‘Dee’ Van Doren Loon Lake, Wash.

Vigil service for Doris Ann “Dee” Van Doren, 49, will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Valley, Wash. Funeral is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Van Doren, who was born in Bellevue, Ill., died Monday.

She graduated from Mead High School in 1967 and worked as a secretary at Spokane International Airport, for the Mary Walker School District, and in a doctor’s office.

In 1977 she married Joseph Van Doren in Valley.

Mrs. Van Doren served as treasurer of the Valley Community Fair Board and volunteered at Valley Elementary School.

She was a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Holy Ghost Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Her husband died in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Shannon Sands of Bremerton; a son, Christopher Van Doren of Loon Lake; a sister, Alice Millay of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Hazel Chambers Spokane

Memorial service for Hazel D. Chambers, 81, was Tuesday. Burial will be at Portland Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Chambers, who was born in Glendale, Calif., died Friday.

She was a homemaker and lived in Spokane for 20 years before moving to Portland in the late 1970s. She moved back to Spokane in 1995.

Survivors include her husband, Harry; three daughters, Nancy Brown of Spokane, Judy Cowee of MiltonFreewater, Ore., and Karen Gerrish of Port Orchard, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Lois Bamonte of Spokane; a stepson, Edward Chambers; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Mark Collins Spokane

Funeral for Mark R. Collins, 29, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 15th Ward. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Collins, who was born in Spokane, died Sept. 4.

He graduated from Mead High School in 1987 and moved to Portland, where he worked as bicycle messenger. He moved back to Spokane about six months ago.

Survivors include his parents, Richard and Diane Collins, and Cheryl and Bob Winkler, all of Spokane; three sisters, Kim Secrest of Spokane, Jeanette Curtis of Pullman and Karen Collins of Yakima; four brothers, John and Michael Collins, and Chris Riley, all of Spokane, and Eric Riley of Provo, Utah; and his grandparents, Wallace Oswald and Myrl Collins, both of Spokane.

Harry Fisk Ione, Wash.

Memorial gathering for Harry Vernon Fisk, 69, will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Newport (Wash.) Hospitality House. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fisk, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

He was a truck driver for Roundup Grocery Co. for many years.

Mr. Fisk was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife Bernice; two daughters, Pamela Jahn and Jerri Garpestead, both of Spokane; five sons, David and Steven Fisk, both of Spokane, Douglas Fisk of Priest River, Idaho, Kenneth Fisk of Polson, Mont., and Donald Fisk of Houston; a sister, Eileen Kuckuck of Spokane; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Sister Eileen Kathyrn Fox, S.P. Spokane

Vigil service for Sister Eileen Kathryn Fox, 73, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Mount St. Joseph. Burial Mass is planned for 1:30 p.m. Monday at Mount St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Eileen (Sister Barbara Jean), who was born in Ephrata, Wash., died Tuesday.

She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Yakima and in 1942 moved to Seattle, where she met the Sisters of Providence at Mount St. Vincent.

Sister Eileen attended Spokane Falls Community College, Gonzaga University and took a nurses’ aide course at Sacred Heart Medical Center. Her ministries included housekeeping positions and working as a Montessori assistant and a receptionist. Sister Eileen was also involved in various aspects of social justice ministry.

She served at Mount St. Vincent in Seattle from 1945 to 1947, and from 1948 to 1949 she served at St. Joseph’s Academy in Yakima.

In 1949 Sister Eileen served at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane and in 1953 she went on to the St. Thomas Home in Great Falls, Mont., where she served until 1960, and again in 1964 and from 1978 to 1979.

She served at St. Joseph Home for the Aged (now Care Center) in Spokane from 1960 to 1964. She would later serve at Montessori in Spokane from 1981 to 1982. Sister Eileen retired from Mount St. Joseph in Spokane in 1996.

Survivors include two sisters; Gloria Fox of Woodinville, Wash., and Patricia Naylor of Longview, Wash., and two brothers, Leroy Fox of Renton, Wash., and Virgil Fox of Onalaska, Wash.

Charles Brown Jr. Spokane

Memorial service for Charles Brown, Jr., 51, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Brown, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday.

Survivors include his wife Debra; two sons, Jason and Eldorado Brown; two daughters, Charlene Brown and Hannah Royer; his parents, Mabel Cattage and Charles Brown; two brothers, Chris and Michael Brown; six sisters, Wendy Carter, April, Laverne and Ava Brown, Diane Anerson and Amanda Cattage; and two grandchildren.

Jeraldine Herman Spokane

Graveside service for Jeraldine M. Herman, 77, was Tuesday at Riverside Memorial Park. A gathering is planned for noon Saturday, at 1904 E. Cataldo..

Mrs. Herman, who was born in Chippewa Falls, Wis., died Sunday.

In 1944 she married Jack Herman in Bennettsville, S.C.

Mrs. Herman was a homemaker and member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

She was a 52-year Spokane resident.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Joy Peone of Libby, Mont.; two brothers, Severn Andersen of Tacoma and Norman Andersen of Puyallup, Wash.; a sister, Alvina Timmons of Graham, Wash.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Elta Cooley Spokane

Private service for Elta A. Cooley, 86, will be held at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cooley, who died Sunday, was born Newport, Wash.

She graduated from Newport High School.

Mrs. Cooley moved to Spokane in 1942.

She was a homemaker and worked as a waitress at the Top Notch Cafe.

Mrs. Cooley spent her summers at Priest Lake, Idaho.

Survivors include her husband of more than 40 years, Richard; a son, Ronald Hunz; two brothers, Harry White of Newport and Mel White of Fontana, Calif.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Martha (Janitti) Hutchinson Spokane

No service will be held for Martha Irena (Janitti) Hutchinson. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements Mrs. Hutchinson, who was born in Calumet, Mich., died Monday. She was 93.

She worked as a private home cook and housekeeper and was a resident of Spokane for 60 years.

Survivors include a son, Charles Hutchinson of Spokane; two brothers, Viljo Janitti of Spokane and Waino Janitti of Kingston, Idaho; three grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, one great-grandchild and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Robert Steury Spokane

Memorial service for Robert Lee Steury, 53, will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Chewelah, Wash., Mr. Steury died Tuesday.

He worked as an accountant in the electronics field for many years and was a Spokane resident for 10 years.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Lyle and Marjorie Tuttle of Clayton, Wash.; two sisters, Carolyn Gilbertson and Ginger Johnson, both of Spokane; and a brother, Marvin Steury of Denver.
