Mary Girton Post Falls

Memorial service for Mary Elmina Girton, 84, will be at 2 p.m. today at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Mrs. Girton, who was born in Denton, Mont., died Thursday.

She lived in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, for 25 years and was a homemaker. She moved to Post Falls in 1973.

Mrs. Girton was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Post Falls and Dorcas Ladies.

Her husband of 61 years, Melvin, died in 1993.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice Hanson of Greenacres and Melva Sloan of Spokane; a sister, Irene Hauser of Post Falls; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Birge Spokane

Memorial service for Dorothy Birge, 90, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

An 80-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Birge died Monday. She was born in Everett.

Mrs. Birge worked as a junior high teacher for several years and was a member of the American Federation of Teachers.

She also was a member of the Church of Truth.

Mrs. Birge is survived by a sister, Helen Gatlin of Moscow, Idaho.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dale `Liver’ Connors Usk, Wash.

Funeral for Dale Owen “Liver” Connors, 74, is planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. Burial will follow at the Newport Cemetery.

Mr. Connors, who was born in St. Maries, died Thursday.

He served in the Army during World War II and later worked as a miner in Butte, Mont., for several years.

Mr. Connors later moved to the Newport area, where he worked as a logger. He retired in the late 1960s.

In 1969 he married Vivian Court.

Mr. Connors was a member of the Cusick American Legion Post.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Connors of Spokane and Patrick Connors of Yakima; a daughter, Karen Chapin of Newport; three stepsons, Curt Elkington and Larry Holland, both of Spokane, and Richard Hearder of Colorado; five stepdaughters, Carol Morales of Newport, Evelyn Elkington of Spokane, Debbie DesJarlais of Elk, Lorraine Fehrs of Libby, Mont., and Sharon Mattson of Everett; a sister, Blanche Johnson of Newport; 79 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Ruby (Keefer) Daviscourt Eugene, Ore.

Graveside service for Ruby (Keefer) Daviscourt, 79, will be held in Eugene at a later date. Conger Morris Funeral Home in Medford, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Daviscourt, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

She graduated from North Central High School and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Daviscourt had been a resident of Eugene for many years.

Survivors include three sons, Nicholas, Michael and Dean Daviscourt; a daughter, Sharon Moen of Renton, Wash.; two sisters, Ruth Pearce of Spokane and Betty McKinney of Eugene; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Darlene Knapp Post Falls

No service will be held for Darlene E. Knapp, 64, at her request. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Knapp, who was born in Moscow, Idaho, died Thursday.

She lived in Kellogg before moving to the Post Falls area 57 years ago. She worked as a bookkeeper in the medical field.

Mrs. Knapp was a member of Post Falls Community Presbyterian Church and had served on the Post Falls School board and the State Education Commission.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Phil; a son, Ed Knapp of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Cindy Peterson and Lauralee Johnson, both of Post Falls; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Dixon Spokane

Funeral for Marjorie Louise Dixon, 49, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Dixon, who was born in Pasco, died Wednesday.

She graduated from Pasco High School in 1968 and moved to Spokane in 1974.

Mrs. Dixon graduated from Spokane Community College with a degree in business management and worked as a care giver in an assisted living home for eight years.

She married Perry Dixon in 1976. He died in 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Yulonda Jimenz of Pasco and Cora Dixon of Meridian, Miss.; four sons, John, Jason, and Perry Dixon Jr., all of Spokane, and Kenneth Perry of Pasco; two sisters, Clarajean Phillips and Lenasue Harris, both of Pasco; and eight grandchildren.

Regina Higgins Spokane

Rosary and memorial service for Regina Marie Higgins, 97, will be at 6 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Higgins, who was born in Sun River, Mont., near Great Falls, died Tuesday.

After her graduation from Great Falls High School, she moved to Spokane where she attended business school.

Mrs. Higgins worked as a stenographer for the Spokane International Railroad. In 1936, as a representative of the Inland Empire, she was honored in Chicago as the Railroad Queen.

She married Ira Higgins in 1940. He died in 1952.

Mrs. Higgins also worked as a mailroom typist at The Crescent department store for more than 20 years. She retired in 1976.

She was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Parish.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Leibrecht, and a son, Patrick Higgins, both of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Anne Thomen Spokane

Funeral for Anne Marie Thomen, 74, will be at 3 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Thomen, who died Thursday, was born in Michigan.

She was a 16-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.

Survivors include four sons, Blair Thomen of Spokane, Randy Strzelecki of Newman Lake, David Strzelecki of Coconut Creek, Fla., and Lee Strzelecki of Slidell, La.; three daughters, Bonnie Boettiger of Bruce, Wis., Barbara Inman of Thompson Falls, Mont., and Lorilyn LaRoche of Alpena, Mich.; two brothers, Larry and Jack; three sisters, Mary, Neoma and Carol; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
