Video Planned On Stream Erosion

The Bonner Soil and Water Conservation District is helping landowners help fish that need cold, clear water.

The district is producing a video on stream stabilization with the intent of encouraging such projects on private land along the Pack River and other waterways.

The video will feature bioengineering techniques such as planting brush willow and dogwood tied in bundles to increase the strength of the soil.

Such techniques are fast and inexpensive ways to protect stream banks from erosion, which degrades fish habitat.

The Pack River, a major migration corridor for endangered bull trout, suffers from a loss of streamside vegetation due to fire, flooding, timber harvesting and overgrazing.

The video will be available midsummer. For more information, call the conservation district at (208) 263-5310.
