Nordic Grooming Continues

Mount Spokane’s cross country ski trails will continue to be groomed through Sunday.

Pete Wood, park manager, said park workers would use the small Tidd-Tech groomer to maintain the trails using funds raised by cross country skiers.

Plenty of snow still covers the mountain, he said.

Clam seasons canceled

The spring recreational razor clam season on Washington’s Pacific Ocean beaches has been canceled because of high levels of toxic domoic acid, the Department of Fish and Wildlife said.

Previously, the department said it was only postponing the season. Recent tests on clams, however, confirmed that the clams are not safe for human consumption.

Officials will collect samples in late summer for additional testing to determine if a fall clam digging season can be opened.

Idaho licenses online

Idaho hunting and fishing licenses and tags are on sale over the Internet.

A contract between the Idaho Fish and Game Department and Bass Pro Shops provides a secure-transaction website for the use of Discover, MasterCard or Visa cards, department officials said.

The cost is $3.50 per transaction plus 3 percent of the total.

The Internet address for Fish and Game is www.state.id.us/fishgame.

Look under “What’s New” or “Quick Find.” Online license and tag purchases can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Hunters or anglers who want to start using their license immediately can check the box indicating they want an authorization number provided to them. They write the number down and make sure they have it with them in the field. The number will pass for a license until the actual document arrives in the mail.

The authorization does not apply to seasons that require an actual tag or permit, such as steelhead fishing, any big-game hunt or controlled hunts.

Controlled hunt applications can also be submitted online. The application period for moose, mountain goats and bighorn sheep runs through April 30.

Applications for deer, elk, antelope and fall black bear and wild turkey controlled hunts will be taken May 1-31.

Super tag winners

Christopher Fracz of Moscow and Leonard Shofner of Oldtown are among 10 Idaho winners of “super tags,” which entitle them to hunt deer or elk any general or controlled hunt in Idaho this fall.

The drawing was an incentive by the Idaho Fish and Game Department for hunters to turn in their hunter report cards.

Winners will have until May 1 to decide if they want a deer tag or an elk tag.
