Kristopher Sather Earns Eagle Scout Rank
Kristopher Sather, a member of Boy Scout Troop 473, has earned his Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded in Boy Scouts of America.
For his Eagle project, Sather built and installed a “Fire Danger” sign for the Fire District No. 9 station on Bigelow Gulch Road.
Sather, a senior at West Valley High school and a member of its jazz band and wind ensemble, is the son of Doug and Karen Sather, Spokane.
Rosemary Coulson has received a $500 scholarship from KPMG Peat Marwick Foundation, an international accounting firm.
Coulson, an accounting student at Gonzaga University, was selected by GU’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi based on her academic achievement and contributions to the local chapter.
Jody Hansen has graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the Army. Hansen graduated from Central Valley High School in 1989 and from Washington State University in 1995. He is the son of Randall and Mary Hansen, Greenacres.
Air National Guard Airman Christopher Trevino has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
Trevino, a 1996 graduate of Cheney High School, is the son of Lou Ann and Kenneth Miller, Spokane.
Tammy McGuire, an English teacher at Upper Columbia Academy in Spangle, received an Inspirational Teacher Award from Eastern Oregon University.
McGuire was recognized for inspiring a 1998 academy graduate to attain high grades in his first term at EOU.
The student built on the foundation laid by his teacher and was named to EOU’s Dean List.
McGuire was one of 25 teachers to receive the award.
Melodye Wiens has received certification as a developmental education specialist from the Kellogg Institute for the Training and Certification of Developmental Educators.
Wiens was one of 45 educators selected nationwide to participate in the certification process.
She is a reading and English instructor at Spokane Community College.
Pvt. Gary Lowell has completed the Army tank systems mechanic classes and received advanced training as a tank recovery driver at Fort Knox in Kentucky. He is now stationed in Germany.
Lowell is the son of Gary and Nancy Lowell, Spokane.
Members of the Kootenai/Shoshone County 4-H group recently competed in the annual County 4-H Dog Bowl and County Oral Presentations.
Dog Bowl participants were scored and judged on their knowledge and understanding of dog training, breeds, care, health, physiology and anatomy.
Molly Kjeldgaard of Newman Lake won a Red Ribbon, a Blue Ribbon and a third place in her categories in the senior division for ages 15-19.
Kaleena Fahland of Spokane won a Red Ribbon in her event in the senior division.
