Obituaries

Albert Pichette Spokane

Funeral for Albert W. Pichette, 78, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A Spokane-area resident since 1942, Mr. Pichette died Wednesday. He was born in East Hampton, Mass.

Mr. Pichette served in the U.S.

Armed Forces during world War II and later worked for Kaiser Aluminum Mead Works for 38 years.

He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, the Disabled American Veterans Post 45, and the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; four sons, Thomas, James, Peter and Albert Pichette; a daughter, Starleen Parsons; a brother, John Pichette; two sisters, Madeline Haugh and Elsie Smith; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Robert Borders Hayden, Idaho

Private service will be held for Robert C. Borders, 87, at his request. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Borders, who was born in Royal Center, Ind., died April 12.

He grew up in Indiana and married Karna Miller. They settled in Montana and he began a career with the Weather Bureau.

Mr. Borders had worked as head of the Weather Bureau in Lewiston, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Yakima, retiring after 30 years.

He moved to Hayden in the early 1980s.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Marilyn Cook of Post Falls and Linda Borders of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Margurite Bowman Chattaroy

Graveside service for Margurite Bowman, 93, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at the Sprague (Wash.) Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bowman, who was born in Oregon, died Thursday.

She worked for Boyer Bank in Walla Walla for many years. She retired in 1974 and moved to the Spokane area.

Survivors include a daughter, Delma Smith; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one greatgreat-grandchild.

Anthony Castillo Spokane

Visitation for Anthony Daniel “Tony” Castillo, 22, will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Castillo, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

He graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1995 and was a full-time music student at Spokane Falls Community College.

Mr. Castillo sang with the Spokane Choral and accompanied many vocalists for Spokane Falls and Eastern Washington University.

He was a member of the Grace Through Faith Church of Newport, Wash., where he was a member of the church choir and a piano assistant.

Survivors include his parents, Mauro Castillo Jr. and Shirley Wagoner, both of Spokane; a sister, Raquel Castillo of Caldwell, Idaho; and a brother, Andre Castillo of Spokane.

June Christiansen Spokane

Funeral for June M. Christiansen, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

A 61-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Christiansen died Thursday. She was born in Loesch, Mont.

She worked as a welder, building liberty ships at the Kaiser Shipyard in Portland, and in 1938 came to Spokane and worked at the Navy Supply Depot during World War II.

She also worked for The Spokesman-Review, The Crescent department store and Leo’s Photography Studio for several years.

In 1945 she married Ralph Christiansen. He died in 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Sonja Barker, her mother, Mae Dickson, and her sister, Grace Wallace, all of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Edythe (Harris) Ferguson Spokane

Private service will be held for Edythe W. (Harris) Ferguson. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ferguson, who was born in Hinsdale, Mont., died Thursday. She was 80.

She grew up in Hinsdale and later lived in Seattle for 30 years.

Mrs. Ferguson worked as a secretary for the Port of Seattle for many years. She married James Ferguson in 1964.

Mrs. Ferguson moved to Spokane 10 years ago.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sherry Holm of Anchorage, Alaska; and two sisters, Eileen Dodd of Kalispell, Mont., and Peggy Kirwan of Seattle.

Gerald Larson Veradale

No service will be held for Gerald K. Larson, 69, at his request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Larson, who was born in Chewelah, Wash., died Thursday.

He worked for Spokane County for many years before retiring.

Mr. Larson was a member of The Fairways Golf Club, and was a longtime member and past president of the Spokane Gun Club and the Washington State Trapshooting Association.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Kathryn; two sons, Sam Larson of Spokane and Jerry Larson Jr. of Kentucky; a daughter, Cindy Puntney of Greenacres; two brothers, Larry Larson of Spokane and Darrell Larson of Moses Lake; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Helen Lyon Rathdrum, Idaho

Burial for Helen F. Lyon, 87, will be held later at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lyon, who was born in Rathdrum, died Wednesday.

She grew up in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School. She settled in Rathdrum after marrying Harold Lyon in 1936.

Her husband died in 1968.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Colley of Otis Orchards; two grandchildren, Debra Harkins and Steve Michaels, both of Spokane; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
