Services Planned For Avalanche Victim

From Staff Reports

Funeral services are planned here this weekend for a Bonners Ferry man killed in an avalanche in southern Alaska.

Howard “Gary” Stone, 46, died last Thursday while operating a backhoe in a steep canyon northeast of Cordova. An avalanche buried the machine and knocked Stone out of the cab, authorities said.

Stone was working at a construction site in an area known as Power Creek about 150 miles southeast of Anchorage.

Funeral services are planned Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Praise Church.
