Stronger relationships

Les and Leslie Parrot will present a Soul Mates seminar for couples from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. next Saturday at Fourth Memorial Church, 2000 N. Standard. The program is designed for married and engaged couples and those who are seriously dating.

Seminar topics include the three most important misbeliefs of marriage, the value of laughter, communication and how to reduce and resolve conflicts.

The Parrotts are coordinators of Seattle Pacific University’s Center for Relationship Development, a program devoted to teaching the basics of good relationships. The couple have also written several books, including “Questions Couples Ask,” “Becoming Soul Mates” and “Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts.”

The Spokane Council of Ecumenical Ministries will host a dinner to recognize retiring executive director Rev. John Olson.

Olson has led the council for 22 years, working extensively with community organizations including the Interstate Task Force on Race Relations and the Greater Spokane Coalition Against Poverty. He also serves as pastor at Grace Lutheran Church.

The dinner will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Gonzaga University’s COG. Cost: $25. Scholarships available. Call 624-5156 by Tuesday for reservations.

Hamp’s Camp concert canceled

This weekend’s Hamp’s Camp benefit concert featuring the Kurt Carr Singers at the Masonic Temple has been cancelled. In its place will be a concert at 7 p.m. today at the Bethel AME Church, 1105 E. Newark, featuring Angels with Attitudes and other performers.

A free-will offering will be collected, with proceeds benefiting Hamp’s Camp, an annual summer camp for low-income children.
